2000 Echo; One of those cases where "shitbox" is a term of endearment! 175K miles, and it's a 5-speed manual too! According to the owner, the A/C is the only thing that doesn't work (and he's going to fix it)!

The owner plans on doing a manual swap with a 5-speed transmission from a Pontiac Solstice (which is a Toyota transmission); I did not know this was a thing!

This is my friend's mom's 2007 Camry that she bought new; The car has almost 200K miles and inexplicably died almost a year ago; My friend gave me the impression that the engine had blown, but after popping the hood I believe the hybrid system is shot...

What do the people of TW think?

 

So my friend's mom has recently gotten a new Camry Hybrid to replace this one; My longtime mechanic had the car towed to his shop to look at it, and plans to buy it to flip if he thinks he can fix it. After trying to start the car myself, I believe the hybrid/battery system is shot...

 

My friend once called me freaking out, thinking the engine in his 2011 Altima was about to explode; Turns out he mistook the "maintenance required" light for the CEL...



After that little episode, I am not surprised that the engine in his mom's Camry looks fine (albeit very dirty) after he described the engine bay as "covered in oil"...

 

My friend and his mom say a bunch of warning lights suddenly came on and the car just started running worse and worse; Now it shows absolutely no signs of life...

 

The car sat in the garage for months, so the spiders moved in and it got very dusty...

 

Following this saga. Hopefully a happy & inexpensive outcome.

 

Well, my friend's mom has already bought a new Camry Hybrid; We're all sure the hybrid system is shot and that ain't cheap...

The question now is whether or not my mechanic decides to buy the car, tackle the job, and flip it for a profit!

 

Does it have any gas in it?

Like you said it's probably the hybrid battery or hybrid system. I can only guess but most likely the hybrid battery.

 

Far as I know it has gas in it, but even if it didn't have gas the car would still power on...
