Factory H11s are 55w, the H9s are rated at 65w. But your truck is more than capable of handling that.

 

Very cool test of those J2's/J3's. It seems that the same rules apply to lamps designed around LEDs as every other lightsource- larger optics are more effective. It's interesting too, that hotspot optic for the J3 appears to be the same that they use for their 4.5" UTV/ATV headlamp.

 

Popped in one of the sets of Nighthawk Platinums I bought since I lost another H9/H11 adapter today.

 

Can't you just remove the green piece on the factory connector and it plugs right up?

 

The 4Runner doesn't have that piece. It's different because the 4Runner's connector is sealed behind a dust cap.

 

Ah ok! Didn't realize this was on a 4Runner. It's weird that Toyota didn't just do the same thing across the board. Even my 2005 GX has that green connector piece. Pretty easy to trim the bulb itself though.

 

Maybe one day I'll try to get in there and trim the connector, but there's not a lot of room to work with unless I remove the headlamps.

 

Just trim the bulb. You really don't need to trim the metal tab. You can just put the bulb in at an angle.

 

HAHA Sorry, not so sorry. I also see it more now since I noticed it that day. Like a train wreck you just can't stop looking at. Not that I go around staring into everyones headlights all the time, but it draws my attention more now. In general I have noticed how light is distributed in some housings since seeing that as well. I find it interesting in a nerdy way to see the way some manufactures design headlights that work well vs others that just kinda made a headlight to suffice legal standards with no care of how it performs. lol Luckily that will be slowly changing since it is now included in the safety ratings of cars. I guess one positive with all the OEM LED headlights means people can't put stupid LEDs in them, but that also means when they fail....it won't be cheap!!!

 

Just got a set of the German H9 Phillips & the Bulbzilla adapter harnesses today. Holy smokes I can see at night now!!! The throw down road is amazing plus I'm not gonna spend $1400 at the dealership for the OEM LED's that will surely freeze over this winter

I feel the same way, drove last night and the difference is amazing for the $20 I spent. Waiting on my diode dynamics amber fogs to come in and now I wanna open up the headlights and paint the trim black. Then my front end is done

 

I also just updated mine to these and it makes a huge difference. Don't know why I haven't before.

 

If I ever get out from under my backlog I could maybe offer some short H9 adapter harnesses. I owe a dozen things first though so it’ll likely be a while. And not sure if the female H9’s I do have will not have similar trouble.

 

Thanks for the offer. I'm trying out the Nighthawk H11's right now. I'm not sure why the adapters burn up. Maybe cheap plastic

 

do you remember which adapter harness I got from you a while back? I think it was maybe last summer. they're working great *knock on wood* so far and I do quite a bit of night driving.
