I can't tell if my leak is coming from the third brake light or the seal it's coming in from both sides but more on the passenger side after heavy rain on my 17.

So I hadn't had a leak in about 6 months, but I did have standing water in my passenger front floor board with heavy rain and through an automatic car wash. I take it in last week and they replaced the 3rd brake light. Remember no leak in months and we've had all but a dang monsoon this year and here's what I get the morning after they replaced it, so I'm guessing if it wasn't that leaking it sure is now. They ordered me a new one as well as a new blower motor or whatever the ac deal was.I'll be giving them ther truck one day next month and hopefully get this resolved. I did climb in it and sit one night during heavy rain and the leak is a slow drip from behind the dash behind the glove box. I told him this before and that I thought possibly its the windshield seal or somewhere up front but he says its the 3rd brake light and that the front is just the lowest point of contact so it comes out there. I will say when I park on an angle with front end on higher point of grade I don't get a leak.we'll see i guess, I'll keep y'all posted.

My 2016 has apparently been leaking for a while. Ordered a new gasket which should arrive tomorrow so I figured I'd start taking down the interior roofing this afternoon. Got it loosened enough and went outside to see what I had out there. Frigging light could be pulled out about 1/4" on one side and 3/16" on the other. I could see in behind the light easily and the gasket is pretty much gone. I'm thinking with the gasket gone vibrations rattled the nuts loose. Maybe? Either way I'm pretty pissed to have to do this. The irony is that I gave my old Subaru to my older kid and she called me last week that the gasket on that one is gone too (for the third time on a 2013). Why can't anyone make a gasket worth more than a corn filled turd anymore?

Does anyone know the part number for a replacement turd (sic) brake light? Mine has a "part number" of 225574-00 on the back, but I can't find that on any Toyota parts sites. Just Ebay, and they're out of new ones. I've got a 2016 Dual cab. Thanks for any help. I thought I had fixed mine but that broken post didn't stay with epoxy, so all my work replacing the gasket was for nothing.

Replaced my leaking third brake light. How tf do they expect people to be able to work in that spot? I went to tighten the bolts after sealing the gasket onto the truck and the damned socket fell off inside the framing. I was there for almost 90 minutes with magnets, needle nose pliers, zip ties, anything to try to get that sucker out. When I finally did, I jumped around like Smeagol at Mt Doom when he got the Precious back.

Stupid light is fixed and works though! Just in time for 1" of rain tomorrow.

There is a service campaign for this issue. The dealership will take care of it. I'm sorry you didn't see it before doing all that work.

Not sure if its a recall or a service bulletin but the dealership called me about it last week for my 18 OR and got me in next day. At 12k miles and garaged all the time leaking has never been an issue but they said because we live in the NW and its the wet season they are being pro active about it. Done and done

My 19 got the recall notice. Taking it in next week. It’s really never been out in the rain. I have checked for leaks after washes with none found.

Have a camper shell on mine and they want 150 bucks to remove it to repair the light. No Bueno. I am going your route.

They got my 17 scheduled for the replacement just 2 days after a huge downpour and it soaked my headliner. Ugly water lines on the liner and a wet butt smell. They said the TSB doesnt cover the headliner or any other damages, just authorized to change the light. He said they inspect it, write it on the report and if you want to take it up with Toyota heres a number to call.

I took my truck in for service a few weeks ago and my service rep said I had recall for the third break light and they fixed it. BTW - mine never leaked.

I read one of the other threads and someone said if you had over 36k miles they wouldn't do it. I've got about 56k miles, am the 2nd owner, and it looked like someone else had worked on this already, since the post was broken off. At least, I keep telling myself those things so I'm not furious about having wasted $100 and a few hours...
Thanks though. I'll research more next time before spending time/money on such an issue.

36K miles is for the comprehensive warranty. The service campaign covered beyond that. I definitely had well over 36k when I took mine in. But I guess if someone else had worked on it, there was a chance they wouldn't cover it

    Work in progress...
It says I have until 2025 to take it in. I don't know if California will let me pay that $500 registration until I get it in there however?
