Oh my, great old memories …. I was born in Bishop many years ago and I remember going to Laws when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. I recognized that old engine the second I saw it!

I’m going to be headed up towards green creek/Bridgeport today. My first winter run up the 395. Looking forward to hot coffee and cold nights in the truck.. I suppose there will be view or two as well…

Winter. That's funny. It's gonna be 64 degrees in Mammoth the next 4 days. Perfect weather. For September. Come back in February and it will be a whole different beast. And winter. lol

If you like coffee and make it to Bishop make sure you get some beans from Black Sheep. I've had great coffee all over the US and Black Sheep is in the top 3. I highly suggest their Ethiopian if you like a very light roast with almost zero acidity and a shit ton of caffeine.

I'm going to have to try Black Sheep. I've been enjoying Joshua Tree Coffee for quite a while now.

Yeah there's been no sign of winter yet up here either with the same temps.

So crap now I have another brand of coffee to try and with the holidays approaching I need to stock up anyway. I will not be down south for a while but see that they have a website that you can order from. I'll grab some of the Ethiopian for sure. Any other roasts or blends that you'd recommend from them? I like a good medium roast and drink it black.

Most of their roasts are very light medium. If I want it darker I just increase the beans and let it sit in the French Press an extra 5 minutes. If you like blends the Sierra Oro is pretty good.

Cool thanks. I'll probably grab a few different ones to try out. I always like to support the local businesses down there. I have a Oxo drip, an aeropress and when feeling nostalgic I break out the Coletti perculator.

A question for those of you exploring the area. I have not been back since I was a kid (1969). While technically I was born in Bishop at the Inyo County hospital, my parents lived in Rovana at the time and later moved down to Bishop around 1962. My father worked at the Union Carbide Pine Creek tungsten mine. Do any of you explore the high country in that area and do you have any pictures or stories to share?

Isn’t that the place next to the old Mountain Light Gallery?

I spend a lot of time in the alpine in the Pine Creek drainage. This is about 7 miles past the mine.

That's awesome. I know what I'll be doing for the next 17 minutes.

This is from the top of Mt Humphreys. Looking down into Humpreys basin. Pine Creek pass is just out of frame to the right.

Upper Horton Lake. Pine Creek Drainage is on the other side of Four Gables. Snow chute on the left is the easiest way up. Prominent pillar on the right is the funnest way up.
