    The poll is tainted!
I loved my 4cyl Celia and was content with my 4 banger manual taco!
The 4.0 taco just gets it no planning for hills or passing.
Not sure I’d do anything but the 6 taco!!

So I’m not sure what I did but my boss called me in for a meeting!
Gave me a thank you card with 100 in it and the afternoon off!
Seems nice to be recognized but I told him I’m nothing special we have lots of people who deserve this!
I just happen to be one of the guys who gets called on when there is a issue!
Guess being able to figure out what’s wrong and running a machine to correct it gets noticed!
    Pretty cool.
I’ve had 3 other local shops contact me looking for me to work for them.
I did not contact them they found me!!
    It’s nice to be recognized!!

I actually like this little guy. Going to use it for a garage/yard mule.

I agree but it’s still nice to be recognized!!
The other jobs payed about the same as with benefits.
I’m old and comfortable where I am.
But they bought me beer and gave me time off I’m cool with that!
I don’t see myself leaving and I don’t think they want me to leave either.
So I guess we have a agreement you put with me and I’ll put up with you.
Our insurance went 100$ this year pretty good for a smaller company to keep our costs down!

    How did K-mart get involved??

I had a 2wd regular cab Ranger with a 2.5 four and 5 speed, 3.73 gears. It wasn't fast but it didn't hold up traffic either. It was content to hum along at 70 on the highway.

Pulling away the Ranger seemed to have more off idle torque than the Tacoma (V6 manual), wind the Toyota up -- different story.

Today's episode of Past Tech with Rusty finds another day cleaning up the archives.
How is this for a piece of cast iron? The guards are almost 1/2" thick.
The wheels are about 2" across.
    KIMG1830.jpg

Notice the 2 little cap things? They are grease cups, unscrew and pack full of grease, give them a turn now and then to force the grease into the shaft bearings. Probably bushings on this actually.
    KIMG1832.jpg

    Inside view of the greaser.KIMG1831.jpg

Note this is a belt drive, probably from a central line shaft that ran through the shop and powered multiple pieces of equipment. Electric motors were very expensive back when this was built.

Another piece of iron saved from the scrapper. Looking for a good home.

Re: the poll, my not Pro is the first truck so no experience with a 4 cylinder.

My first car was a 4 - a 1982 Oldsmobile Omega. Completely forgettable.

My wife's car when we first got married was a 4 cylinder, 5MT Plymouth Neon. Second gear in that thing was amazing. I miss gear jamming.

My first 4 cylinder Toyota is my wife's Highlander but since it's a hybrid, that doesn't technically count. Way zippier than it has any right to be. I'd love that powertrain in my Tacoma.

    RE: Poll
I had a 4cyl Saturn Ion II that lasted me like a week and a half. Paid $1500 not knowing the previous owner dropped a bolt in the intake. Apparently it was for the harmonic balancer.... It locked up right as I pulled into a gas station and I just thought I ran it out of gas. Filled it up, it started, died, had it jumped, started made it to my apartment, it died again, and there it sat until I sold it for $600 and the guy sent me photos when he pulled the engine of the bolt embedded into the cylinder head and told me the harmonic balancer wasn't bolted down fully.

I have had many 4 cyl Toyota’s over the years. My first was an 89 extra cab 4x4. Then came along an 82 that became a wheeling rig. Started having problems with the 82 so I tore it apart and straight axles the 89. Then came along an 87 long bed 2wd 1 ton. Put a flatbed on that one and drove the wheels off of it. Then had a 99 tacoma with the 4cyl. Had 300k plus when I got it, still going with the guy that bought it. I miss the 89 the most, it was fully locked and geared on 37s. I’ll have to dig a picture out of it.

Thank you sir! I'll try not to vent, it's not much fun. I did get things put back together enough at the place she rents and that's a huge burden off me.
    Hope everyone been good.

    Goodmorning crew.

About the poll; I've never owned a 4cyl Toyota but the company I worked for provided me with a couple back in the 1980's. It was my friend's 1986 Xtra cab SR5 4x4 that changed my feelings toward a little import. That '86 was the little truck that could. It didn't live a easy life by any means and it still ran fine when he got rid of it with 300k miles.
I think those mid 80's trucks were just a good combination of small, light weight, good 4x4, no they didn't have massive torque but wind the engines up and they do fine.

I do miss the mini trucks, they were so good at being exactly what they were intended to be -- handy utility vehicles for you and a helper.
Perfect for local deliveries, a run to the dump or hauling a dead deer.
Nobody bought those trucks with the idea of pulling a 28 foot camper.

This 4runner I picked up has the 3 liter 6 cylinder in it. The guy I purchased it from said that he checked the VIN and it never had a service related to the head gasket replacement. Maybe they didn't all have that problem but two people I know who owned them both had problems. Multiple times head gaskets. :notsure:
Sure looks to be original engine and 290k miles they must not be all bad.
