I know there is a thread but will these fit the Taco. The first is a 17x8 4.5 backspacing "0" offset. Wouldn't you want some offset? And the second one is a 17x9 with 4.53 backspacing and " -12 " offset. Which one would fit better after I install the Eibachs and 5100's

 

They are basically identical specs, except one is wider. Both would work.

 

Im trying to get better at this stuff myself....so,

1) With his specs, I dont see how an 8in rim has a 4.5in and zero offset. At zero offset, shouldnt the BS be 4in?

2) Then the 2nd rim is 9in wide with 4.5BS.....but the freakn offset is -12mm. Wouldnt this be a rim with zero offset?

Are there numbers that shouldn't be taken literal or what??

They aren't measured from the same spot. Backspacing is measured from the back edge of the rim, which sits outboard of the bead seat.

Rim width is measured between the bead seats. Go out and measure your rims and you'll see that they are actually about an inch wider than the true "rim width".

Therefore, if you add 1/2" to the inner edge of the rim (where the backspacing is measured from), you end up with 4.5" bs on a 0 offset 8" wide rim, rather than 4".

 

Wait are you saying that ALL wheel specs do or dont take into account the difference from bead seat and outer wheel edge?

 

I'm saying that backspace is always measured from the outer edge of the wheel, and width is always measured from the bead. This diagram shows how rim width is measured.

Umm, lemme hijack this thread for just one quick second (while we're here)...

What do you think about 18x9, 4.5BS and -12 offset....with a 305/60/18 tire (for a 3in lift)? <----- 32.6 overall diameter tire according to ProComp.com
And 12.0 section width according to tire calculator.

 

I think it's going to require a ton of cutting even with a 3" lift. The guys with 285's have to cut some fender well plastic and sometimes chop and re-weld the cab mount.

 

hmm, so do i change something about the wheel selection to cure it, or do I need to just get a smaller tire?

 

Wheel selection will have minimal impact at that point.
