Diesel in oil before draining

What’s everyone’s thoughts about running a detergent like a quart of diesel in with your oil and idling to warm up right before draining for an oil change? I’ve done it on a couple other vehicles I’ve had in the past with no problems and obviously no visible results. Just wanted some other opinions. Thanks

Yeah, I agree. Not a great idea for an engine.
If you really wanted to flush, you would dump the current oil. start over with new oil, run the engine to temperature, then dump again.

I worked in petroleum refineries. In that application they would often rinse out tanks, vessels, or exchangers with diesel (or other partially refined products called "cutter") to help move thicker materials or products forward in cleaning or tank service transfer operations. It made little difference since those same tanks were at the front end of the refinery and destined for subsequent refining -- contamination was never an issue. Finished product tanks were never flushed with anything but what was supposed to be in them from the get-go.

 

If your truck has had regular oil changes, it's pointless.

A vehicle that never had an oil change and is sludged up, it could help.

Its not needed. Just use an oil that meets the API specs as called in the Owner's Manual.

Just change the oil and filter regularly and use good products. This like improving your diet -- you see gradual, predictable results.

Solvents or flushes are like a laxative -- they cut loose a lot of stuff right now with unpredictable results -- this stuff is now floating around in the engine, again with unpredictable results.

 

Engine laxative..... very good..

 

Agree with the others, Toyota engines aren't like an old domestic straight 6 still using 1920s engine technology (cough 4.0 jeep cough), they don't sludge up and don't get crazy dirty if you change the oil on a reasonable time frame.

A result of not changing your oil as scheduled................. poor engine, stupid owner.

The owner stepped over dollars to save pennies.

I'm sure the money saved by skipping oil change maintenance paid for the dead engine repair.

 

If that were true they wouldn't have redesigned the flawed block.

 

Sorry, I don't believe a flawed block will cause sludge of that magnitude.

 

I have used seafoam with good results. A couple of ounces.

 

It burned more oil than the older versions previously did. It's a known issue.

 

Burning oil is typically a result of worn piston rings or worn valve guide seals. To my knowledge the block oil passages do not directly connect to the combustion chamber.

I have no doubts the block was redesigned. I'm skeptical if "oil burning" or "sludge" was the reason.

 

The new modern oils already have additives and detergents to resist sludge buildup. I believe that if you are changing your oil at the recommended frequency or more often, you won't have a need to put anything else in it.
