Nobody cares but as an update I bought two pairs of Hand Up AT Pants. These should fit my criteria; I was looking for dirt jump/pedaling pants so no padding or insulation needed. Asking around these also come highly recommended by a trusted rider so I'm eager to try them. Also nice to support a local importer aka Hand Up

    2021 Trek Slash 9.8.
It's a beast and a blast on the downhills, but a lot of bike to pedal on long steep climbs. Hence the switchblade on order

Didn't know handup made pants. Those look nice!

I think you went with the right bike. Switchblade & Ripmo are everything people say they are. I spent a couple weeks out West recently with the SB and it was at home on bigger trails such as 401, Dr. Park, Whole Enchilada, Captain Ahab, etc but even when I came back home to the tight and twitchy up/down techy trails out East, it did just as well. Hence the name, Switchblade I guess.

    Looks like a rad area.
I gotcha...it's been nice to take advantage of deals from... especially considering I don't race and my social media presence is pretty much non existent haha

I was gunna say if you have O'Neil on there pick up some pants on there. OR pink bike classifieds

Story time and lesson time for selling a bike....

Had my 2019 Trek slash 9.8 stolen from me right in front of my face last weekend.

Had the seller meet at my house (mistake one my part not meeting somewhere more public), guy seemed nice and was asking lots of questions and was friendly. Had the usual small talk and then he naturally wanted to take it for a spin around the block.
I said sure and he gave me his "house keys" as collateral while he tested it out. I pocketed them. I didn't think too much of it cause I've had good luck with selling a lotta bikes in the past and the guy seemed decent.

Like 10 min or so went by and I was wondering where he was. Pulled out the keys he gave me and I immediately saw that it was uncut key and the keyfab was a dummy one.

At that point it was too late and that guy was already long gone.

Filed a police report and thankfully I have renters insurance.
Thankfully it's not my only bike and I still have something to ride, or else I would be significantly more bummed out.

Anyways, learned a hard lesson to basically not trust anyone you're selling to no matter how they seem and to never let whatever you're selling out of your sight during a potential sale.

    JFC, that’s crazy

So… do you have to require full asking price in cash before a test ride now?!

That made my stomach drop just reading it - sorry to hear about the whole situation. To be completely honest, I would be in the same situation you are if someone wanted to take it for a spin real quick. You have any pictures of the bike to keep an eye out for? I am on the other side of the country, but I'm always browsing for sale sections.

To guess he said, “here hold my keys till I get back.”
Gotta hold something more valuable I guess.

Thanks for the heads up, it’s nice to know common strategies thief’s use.

not a bad idea, but just take a lot more precautions during a sale should be good enough. i.e meet at a public parking lot somewhere or something. and just don't let it out of your sight and you should be fine for the most part. If they wanna take it for a spin around the block out of sight, yea I would say holding onto the purchase money would be the best bet there.
    I was just too trusting.

Appreciate it man. Picture of it is below

He parked around the corner from the house. Didn't think much of it at the time.
Didn't even get a look at the car unfortunately. The police have cameras all over town, but I had literally nothing to go off of which sucks.

Yea definitely. He was like "here's my house key as collateral", and I felt the car key fab on it so I figured that would be good enough.
Lot of things could have been done differently, but there's no way I could have known so it is what it is at this point.

    20211012_175442.jpg
    Upgrades on it include:
full invisiframe wrap, oval chainring, steerer tube tapped for oneup EDC tool, and vorsprung air piston in front fork

Doubt it'll pop up online if the thief has any wits about him, but you never know.
Thanks for keeping an eye out!
