Just found this thread and VERY curious how everyone likes the underseat option. I barely use the underseat storage so it seems logical to use for subs that I don't need to lift the seats for often. Would be huge if I can keep behind the seats open for everything else I have planned.

Anyone done this with the shallow mount Kicker RT series? Thinking 2x 8's would be good for my purposes (don't want huge bass, just better low end response/fill in addition to front/back speaker upgrades).

I recently upgraded my aging 8" subs (CSS Trio 8s) to Alpine Type R 8s with the integrated grills. I've been very happy with them. I should have tried them years ago. Sorry I don't have a finished product picture and it's filthy but you get the idea. I've been running this enclosure style since I started this thread years and years ago.

Check the depth on the Kicker's and see if it's the same or less than the Type Rs and if so, you can make it work. Just make sure your not sitting too tall on top of the enclosure because it will hit the seat bottoms.

Awesome thanks for the info, glad you have been happy with this setup! Looks like your Type R 8's have a depth of 4.5" and the Kickers I mentioned are even more shallow around 3". I need to give this configuration some serious consideration...

Curse you TacomaWorld gods for making me spend money! /s

With that shallow of a depth you can make a mounting ring that is bolted/glued to the underside of the baffle. So you'd cut a hole in the baffle the same size as the overall diameter of the sub so it fits fully in the hole. But that ring underneath it is the mounting surface and has the cutout diameter sized so the sub fits on it. That way you get the thickness of the baffle as a countersink. That will keep the cones away from the seats better.

    Hi folks
I recently decided to give it a shot, i am fitting the focal 10wm woofers. Ive been running them behind the seat , but im adding two more amps and will useing the area behind the seat for the amp rack.
    Its still a wip!
After a bit of surgery with a cut off wheel, i ended up with .47cf, per side with the woofers in place, spec is .70-.35 , i rechecked useing styrofoam beads, , i raised the seat by 2inchs, at 6.2 i can still sit in the back, but i have about 1/2 inch of clearance, i never really have anyone in the back seat.
the plan is lots of fiberglass, lots of swearing , it will be sealed , at the end of the today, the cutting , divider , and 3 plus layers of glass are done. Ive made a baffle that i will be glassing in place permanently, and a second , if all goes well, baffle that will bolt to the first,

    Sounds great!

I'm curious, what method are you using for raising the seat 2"?

Just moving the bottom of the rear, i made 1/4 thick brackets for the front of the bottom , for the rear, im still trying, I may just attach a 2" standoff and glass over it to the floor

Nice work. I wasn't willing to make mine 100% permanent. The lower portion of mine is glassed but just the interior. My baffle/top plate is removable so I can switch up the subwoofer size if needed (which I've done twice over the last 12 years). It's a bit more involved on the baffle creation but still worth it I think.

20220228_115641.jpg Ive made the woofer baffle removable, the base plate wont be, so if the change drivers, i will just have to make a new baffle. Plus i really wanted to use the focal 10wm, and they just barely fit

Very pretty! Inquiring minds would like to know....what happened to the horizontal channels routed into the top bits? I thought that looked kinda cool! Too tough to wrap?

That looks beautiful, like it could be factory in a high end trim. Makes me want to pursue this, but I know I wouldn't be able to make it look that nice.

    5) 2x8" Alpine Type-Rs (I should have done this from the start)
