I like mine and, so far, it hasn’t gassed me or drained my battery…

What about using the propane heater only when active in camper? Eating reading hanging out - at night turn it off and get into a good bag.

This is where it's at. I've got a few bags for various temperatures. I've got a handmade bag from Kulane Mountaineering in Edmonton, Alberta that is unbelievably warm. Put a cotton liner in any bag and your set.

Pour some hot water in your Nalgene and throw it in the bottom of the bag before you go to bed. Super comfy and warm. You won't die. Will never fail. No soot. No gas stations. And you can slam some water in the morning.

OP, what is your verdict so far?

I like that, thanks for sharing.

That is okay if you have an alarm. The bigger the air space the better. With these stuff using gas, they're awesome when they work. The problem is if it fail and you're not aware, your done, there is no "should of done that". If the electric blanket fails, you wake up (usually) and start your truck and sleep in the cabin maybe. If the gas stuff fail and you're not aware you don't wake up; big difference. Even if your active and not aware, no 2nd chance. They say it's odorless, but I think it gives most people a teeny wheeny hint, while awake that is.

A 100 W blanket will draw about 8 A at a nominal 12.4V (current=power/voltage), and since your inverter has an additional loss due to efficiency you will be drawing more current than that from your battery. Depending on the condition and charge of your battery it’s capacity is at best 40-50 amp hours. Your battery will be dead before you wake.
Best to get an external power source like a small generator. Or better yet a good warm sleeping bag as I recommended earlier, your body supplies the heat then.

Big ol sleeping bag, a thiccy boi wool blanket and a thicc piece of foam from home depot to insulate me from the truck bed. No fuel, no fire, no carbon monoxide. Takes me down to -20 celcius easily. Thats what I'd recommend, sadly in my line of work I've seen a handful of carbon monoxide deaths - some were suicides though.

My uncle died of CO poisoning in his RV so propane heaters scare me. I have a Coleman Little Buddy heater that I used to preheat the inside of my rig or tent before I get in for the night but I shut it off when I climb in. Nothing beats a quality sleeping bag.

Careful my guy, a dead battery is no joke out in the bush in winter.

OP, I would be very careful with a buddy heater in an enclosed space. The only situation where I would use one is in my roof top tent with both side vents cracked so I had fresh air flowing near my face. I'd put the heater at my feet and have the entrance cracked open as well so the heater had ventilation. I'd also only have it on when I was awake. Asleep you are just asking for trouble - fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. For what? How much is your winter camping trip worth? Your life? I'm guessing not.

Agreed. One way to avoid this is a dual battery setup (link is not working for some reason - off grid 4x4 dot com). If you own a sport you will need to go with the setup pictured below. PRO and Off-Roads can go with the other battery in the passenger corner at the firewall. Many overlanders use this type of configuration to power firdge/freezer combos. The setups isolates the batteries so the fridge will not drain the battery used to start your rig and you can manually isolate the batteries. I have this on my list of electrical upgrades for this year. Run your electrical heater and whatever else off of the 2nd battery and the voltage sensing relay will charge it back up once the vehicle is running.

Sport needs the side-by-side b/c of the ABS valves in the passenger firewall side

Pro and OR can go split dual batteries.

Update: I still have a lil buddy heater but only use it to preheat the camper and shut it off while awake. I have a electric blanket, hand warmers, and my 0 degree sleeping bag, oh and my shell is now insulated. I also have a co and smoke detector. Got a Jackery since then. I’ll post a pic of my shell.

This is the way it's done. I pre heat my tent an hour or so before hitting the sack then turn it off after climbing in. Sometimes I'll turn it back on in the morning before getting out of the bag. Makes those cold mornings much more bearable.

So much discussion of bad ideas... just do a diesel heater and be done.
