Quietest MT tires?

Which MT tires do you guys have experience with that will be decent on the street....in terms of not being obnoxiously loud?

In other words, whats the coolest tread design (MT-wise) that still works nice on the street, with mostly noise taken into consideration?

I dont mind a little noise, but I dont want it to drive me nuts after a couple months etc.
Ex: I dont want to hear them a bunch with the windows up and radio playing normal.

since you asked, probably the BFG KM2's

But honestly you should probably stick with an A/T if you're that worried about street manners. They will be quieter, better in rain/snow, and last longer.

 

I wouldn't suggest getting MTs if you are worried about noise.
I had MTs and I ended up taking them off because of noise.

 

My Hankook Dynapro MT's are quiet on the pavement by MT standards , but a long run on the highway can still be annoying .

 

Have you used them personally?

Ive heard decent things about KM2 noise level....but heard they are a bitch because you GOTTA rotate them like every 5K miles if you want to keep them in good wearing shape (true??).

Back on noise though, I think I can deal with a little noise for the style of the MT....ATs are just so freakn tame looking!

Oh, and im not worried to much about getting a lot of mileage as long as its more than 20-25K miles....im used to getting only 10-20K out of my supra's tires and I dont even hit average annual mileage.

 

Which did you have? Can you describe just how bad was bad?

 

KM2s are better than toyo mts. 5k is how I rotate them, but I do every tire at 5k so its not that big o deal

KM2s are mostly my favorite style-wise

I saw some Open Country MTs today that looked pretty cool (35x12.5 x 18)

Yes you need to rotate them every oil change. Just get a life tie rotate and balance from the tire shop. My cooper ST look like an MT but they are ATs, they are not quite.

 

i've had 2 sets of Cooper STTs and now on my second set of KM2s...

i find the KM2s better in the desert and much quieter...

i run 285-75-16s at 30psi on road and with the radio off and windows open, i don't notice the proverbial MT hum like on some other brands...

 

Hmm, judging from this thread and others ive asked, it seems that the KM2s are mostly quiet. Strange, considering what the tread looks like (aggressive).

I just dont get why an MT tire requires such often rotating as compared to any other type of tire.

well if you want experiences, i had mud grapplers before my trail grappler m/t..... those mud grapplers howled like none other!

x2, and mine vibrate like no other and will not balance. Don't buy blem tires on ebay!

 

i never had balance issues with the STTs and they wore out very evenly, but after 20,000 miles they would develop that MT hum...

in sharp desert rock terrain the lugs would chunk off too...

 

Why not get something like a Duratrac? It looks like an M/T, but it's an A/T, and is supposed to be very quiet...

Duratracs are good in mud, great in snow, and 10x better on wet pavement than MT's.
