Has anyone been able to tame the leak?

Recently bought a Leer 100XQ. I know after reading that making these things water tight can be a tall task. I went around the rails with a tube of Flexlock and it solved most of the leakage. The only spot I'm still getting decent leakage is in the front corners of the bed. I've read there's some pretty massive holes where the cap meets the bed there. Anyone have any solutions to stop the leaks in that area?

 

Sigh...been going through this for a month now with a new Leer topper. I'm just seeing the sides leak for the first time, not sure how with the topper reaching below the rails and the truck sitting.

I have had some success with the front corners which is where it was leaking the most. Water would pool on the front rail and seep in so I added this:

I just stuck it on like a flap that covers the front rail the entire width of the truck. I had some help from my girlfriend who stayed outside the truck and got the corners in place, I was able to pull the adhesive backing and press it on from inside the shell. There are two gaps, one where the shell sits on the rail,and one where the rail is bolted to the truck, so we applied two layers.

So far it's been dry in heavy rain and may have actually fixed it, but it's only been a few days. Not sure if it will even stay on or not.

How/where did you apply the flexlock?

 

So the stuff I used is called Dynaflex by DAP. I can take pictures when I get home from work in the morning but basically I got a caulking gun and just ran a bead under the lip of the shell edge from inside the bed. I went around all 3 sides and it fixed the leaks I was having on the sides towards the back of the bed near the tailgate. It also decreased the leak at the front, but looking for a solid solution.

 

I bought this and put a strip of it across the problem front corner areas and trimmed it to fit tight. I get zero leaking in that part of my canopy.

I have an ARE and my problem areas are the windoors and the terrible "seal" by the tailgate corners

 

What's you guys' opinion on some of that expanding foam in a can and just going to town in the front corners from the inside? My biggest concern is it seeping out and ruining the paint on the outside of the truck.

 

Disaster in a can. Please don't do that. Just keep at it with silicone and try to make your seal on the outside as much as you can.

 

Would flex seal spray work?

 

I did also consider the ole' flex seal. I'm just hesitant in general about "As seen on TV" products.

 

So the front is .5" higher than the sides. Has anyone ever checked to see if ARE/Leer build these with the step down to the sides, or is it flat and they just throw it on there? Asking for thousands of others. LOL

Flex Seal is legit. Can't speak to how it would work for your situation, but the product itself is really good despite being "As Seen on TV".
