Warranty guys... Please don't worry about your warranty with this item. It's a simple bolt on that will NOT hurt anything on your truck. I've been modifying cars and trucks for a LONG TIME! I've installed all kinds of items on my vehicles (Superchargers, engine management software, light weight flywheel, heavy duty clutches, suspensions, automatic windows and sunroof controllers, exhausts and headers and much more). Headers are one of the safest bolt ons you can add. Exhaust is in the same group. Actually, air intakes can be worse as there is a chance you can over oil them and get oil on your MAF sensor.

Thanks Brandon, what benefit do you gain from the fuel pump?

Nevermind... just looked it up through URD! Good deal, I'll have to do that before I hit 30k.

I think the biggest difference is build quality and thorley offers a longtube and ceramic coating. If your drivestyle doesn't change you should see a slight increase in MPG.

Ok, a couple of comments and questions.

    - Props to the OP and Gadget for getting this set up. Great price,,, must be good if I'm considering it!

    - Since I have an 09 4.0, it ends up costing about $520 before shipping (headers, gaskets, O2 Sim). Seems like a high cost for about 12-14 hp/torq within a small rpm range. Isn't the MAF cali supposed to gain 10-15 by itself for about $200 (don't see a dyno for the cali though, not clear on where that 10-15 fall)?

    - The 4.0 hp/torq curves posted are a bit strange to me
---- apprears that low rpm (1500-2500) hp/torq are lower than stock, looks significantly lower, but
-------- not sure of the accuracy of the rear-wheel dyno at low rpms
---- nice little bump at 2800-4000 rpm, then just a few added ponies up to redline
    - From the above curves it looks like the headers are tuned for just a mid-rpm bump, with a lower low-rpm curve and a bit higher at high-rpm. If this is true, might not be a good fit for me since this is my daily driver and "normally" I don't go higher than 3k rpm, except for those instances when someone needs to get dusted or I just feel the need.

Can these questions be passed onto Gadget? I'm curious as to how the headers fit into a small NA build (proven dollars/HP is what I'd look at) where I'd probably progress through headers and MAF cali, with stock air intake and catback (haven't seen a CAI and catback as good $$$/gain without FI).

I was seriously considering the MAF cali as the first step, but this GB caused me to re-consider the order.

Lurkin you will absolutely loose low end torque and gain top end while N/A! With the bigger tubes and loss in back pressure the low end drops however the mafcal slightly makes up for the low end loss or/also look at getting the NST manifold spacer to increase low end while N/A.

I have the first gen headers on now and it by far is the best mod I have done, gives the truck a mean growl and preforms great.

keep in mind that this is the first ever doug thorley approved GB and is a fantastic price!!

also lurkin you say 520 is a high dollar amount for lets say 15 hp at best. thats about 34$ a hp. a blower after install was about 4700 for me and it adds 70 roughly. thats about 67$ a hp. I think these headers might be the best bang for your buck when it comes to money/hp comparison. I JUST WANT MY HEADERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the 31st is taking forever

Thanks for all the input. Definitely agree on the GB and pricing. I'm still mostly concerned with losing low end during my daily driving though.

Your comment on the MAF cali though doesn't make total sense to me as the MAF cali only adjusts the fuel maps when in open loop (full throttle, or close to it after it's warmed up). The rest of the time, closed loop, the fuel map is mostly dictated by the a/f ratio. Now, I can see the MAF cali bringing the power back when you floor it at low rpms, but for daily driving, I'm still concerned about that loss.

I've also seen the NST. Been hoping that the price of that thing would drop to around $200 though. $300 is high to me for this.

Good point, I was looking at the MAF cali for a $/hp comparison. Reality though is that there aren't any low hanging $/hp upgrades available. The engine manufacturers are taking most of that themselves anymore.

I'll need to figure out what makes sense for me. Trying to weigh the low-end loss and any possible rasp, against the f*&^%$g fun factor. If there wasn't any low-rpm loss I'd be on this no doubt. Thanks for the input.
