I hope so. Def sucks with the recent shortened seasons but I still think it's possible. His pace is still insane, with little to no drop off. They said today in the game that his last 82 games he had 50-some goals. So thats still really impressive. I'm sure he will get at least 45 this year.

 

Both of which I expected to be at least decent...lol

Looks like the Penguins are being purchased by the group that owns the Red Sox. Not sure how I feel about that. Likely big changes coming, if that happens.

 

I saw the headline. I think Lemieux will still be involved? May seal Malkin's fate for a new deal.

Yes, looks like he will retain some sort of minority share. That is good, but I don't think that means that means much as far as him having the say like he does now. I think Mario really wanted Sid, Geno and Letang to all retire as Penguins. That might not happen now, if the new owners want to re-tool on the fly and stay competitive (which is likely.)

 

That's my thought. What better way to move players that are tied to a franchise then by having the long time owner step aside for new owners, with no ties or loyalty to those players? To be honest, Malkin's ability to stay on ice and contribute has been greatly reduced. I can't see a large contract extension for this.

 

I agree. I love Geno, but I just don't see the core 3 remaining Penguins until they retire. I know Mario mentioned that he always felt like Jagr should've been a Penguin forever and I think he feels like he would want Sid, Geno and Letang to remain here while he was the owner. So now that he would not be in the same position I bet someone gets dealt. Also, remember that the rumor is that Rutherford wanted to move 1 or both Letang and Geno and was told "no" by higher-ups. Not sure how true that is, but given how sudden his departure was, it doesn't seem too far out of line.
