If you only have a fridge prob not too bad if you are keeping it charged up. Right now I have a dual 35AGM but only running off 1 of them 60ah but really 30ah if you think 50% of the battery and runs well. I found that running 200 Watts or more than 100 Watts is key especially in the winter months where you may not get much sun. Previously I had 100 watts on a larger battery and only had issues once in the wintertime. Doubling up solar and even going down in battery size I have not had an issue since. For my house battery, I am considering moving to a LiPo in the bed so that I can use 100% of the Ah instead of worrying about draining past 50%.

I know at least a few people with dual battery setups that also have a Yeti or similar battery they swap in for trips as needed might be overkill but the portability of it is nice.

Yeah I have them hooked up to my Yeti 100% of the time to keep it charged during the day. I just use the small yellow pump from Amazon that most people have. My truck battery is only used to power LED’s during camp.

What about using the front existing with an added brace with a lip. Curious if the 3rd gen has it in both spots. or even better use both top and side anyway. I like the top mount you noted but this would be good to keep it braced instead of all at the top.

you're saying like a piece of angled aluminum essentially, hanging down like that so we can tie into the hardware already there for the 2nd gen T-Slot channel?

Exactly. If you put the T-Slot over like in the photo given the existing hardware or maybe a slightly longer one that aught to be enough to keep the camper in place. Way better than starboard.

definitely. I thought about that.. but was trying to be as unobtrusive as I could. but.. the more attachment points the better I guess right. I havent heard back from them yet.. I need to give them a call. 10 days away from heading out.

Can you tell me what solar panels you have hooked up to your Yeti, and how you have them hooked up? I have a 1500x and so far all I'm powering is my fridge and the battery lasts for over a week, longer if I use the Yeti car charger in the 12v socket. But I'm thinking of hooking up lights and recharging stuff, so I'm considering getting a solar panel or two. I know you can hook a panel into the Anderson connector if you get an adapter, just wondering what you've done as an example. Thanks.

I don't think there's consensus yet but I replaced my 2nd gen stock caps with the aluminum kbvoodoo ones based on the damage my snugtop did to the bed paint. Seeing how the snugtop probably weighs half the X1 it didn't make sense to just keep smashing the crap out of the stock caps. Also it will reduce the dust intrusion quite a bit based on all those holes and the amount of dust on under the caps and behind the bed rails.

Who? I’ve had the same amount since I installed them on the SP. I had (1) 100W panel before on my canopy/RTT setup but it wasn’t charging the GZ as fast as I wanted.

I was working in the new camper today and thought of this idea to keep it on and from shifting. I have riv-nuts up front and in back on either side and can connect to a T-nuts in the side rails. This is just a piece of aluminum I had sitting around and cut it to an approximately length and drilled a single hole. I didn't have any M8 bolts for the T-nuts. I don't know what the strength of the M6 riv-nuts are, but couple this with the clamps seems like a really simple way to work this all out.

Sound idea! I always wondered why they didn’t tie it into the stock rails in the first place

Quick job as a mock up. The blue circle is the front riv-nut.shell clamp3_LI.jpg shell clamp2.jpg shell clamp4.jpg
I'm a geologist, good at drinking beer, not an engineer, but I think this would work. Need a drill press, but I think you all get the idea on all 4 courners

I agree. I just don't know how strong the riv-nuts are. I sent an email to Peter and Josh with that question. If you add these with the clamps it should be golden and spread the force around.

@Taco-Surfer I like that! Simple and effective. Should be able to do the same along the front and in theory.. would act, or at least help, as a hard stop to keep the camper from shifting forward towards the cab. Right? I'd still like a better filler than starboard (I still might just use some square tubing to fill that section along the front of the bed) but then doing this too.. I'd at least feel more confident in it that it's not going to move.
