Plywood has an almost nonexistent R-value. It’s like 1 for a 3/4 sheet. Can of that great stuff window gap closed cell foam would be better. Has an R-value of 7 per inch of thickness. And keeps out moisture

 

If you want it " cat approved ", you should line the inside with cardboard

 

My 2 indoor kitty boyz, Wallace & Gromit. Both just shy of 13 y/o. When they're allowed out in the front yard, they hang around like a couple lazy dogs. Here they're chillin' in the back of my 98 Ranger while I was wrenching on the new Taco.

Wally is the one showing off his toes! It's funny 'cuz almost 13 years ago, it had been a year without my best tiger boy when we lost him to a lung ailment at 16. It was devastating and I had to find just the right kitty to fill the void. After a year of turning down some potentials, a photo shows up on craigslist and it's a 7 week old Wally laying on a chair all stretched out exposing his spotted belly and toe beans and Gromit right behind him. I was only looking for 1 boy but I knew immediately that these 2 gomers were the ones. I'll never get another cat without it's sibling, preferably boys. They've been an absolute hoot....even when we've been exposed to "drive-by cattings" at 3 a.m. I've never woken up at that hour laughing, even while bleeding!

 

I plan to line it with some foam board too.

 

I finished up the construction of the roof/lid.
I layed out and cut the end panels.

Stood the roof on end.......

And screwed the end panels on.

It's a roof, Snoopy would be proud.

I installed some hinges so I can open it up to clean it out as needed and put fresh straw bedding in from time to time.

 

that whole thing reminds me of my dads garage shop when we built doghouses for people. He retired early from AEP to turn his lifelong hobby into a little business for many years. Alzheimers came along, and he finally had to give it all up, but your set up looks just like hhis. I am assuming you have made all of the shelving, tables and cubbies on your own...

 

860 pages of cats??? wow. ;o) one day i'll explain my ptsd over evil cat my wife had and then I had when we were married... took us 12 years to consider a new one... ;o) That and a thunder anxiety dog preventing adopting another and covid...

Nice! Our puppy got a sweater today. Wife asked me did I see it, I said no....it was camo!

 

I have used styrofoam sheet insulation as well as reflective roll insulation when building cat shelters—easy to use and cheap.

 

I have made everything in my basement shop except for the cabinets under the miter saw station, I purchased every odd cabinet that habitat for humanity had for cheap. It's my happy place, I love to be in my shop making something or turning on the wood lathe. I go down to my shop, turn the radio on and work with my hands a just tune out the world for a while.

 

All 4 kittens were adopted today!

We turned on the gas fireplace for the first time this weekend, and Gracie now lives in front of it. The look on her face at first was priceless - she just stared at it in wonder. She spent many winters outside, but she will never be cold again.
