Part of my back deck is rotten so I picked up (12) 16x6x2's this am and attempted to drag them home in my taco. I barely got out of the parking lot before they had all slipped out, bent my tailgate and landed directly in oncoming traffic.

3 good samaritans stopped, parked blocking traffic to shield us and one guy offered to drive them in his Dodge bed to my house. Guy wouldn't let me pay him anything when we got to my house.

What a nightmare. Part of me wants a bigger truck and is looking for justification for one. o_O

When I haul long loads I make sure to choke at least one strap .

How did you have them loaded and tied down?

Then I have a few extra tie down points

Ouch! Glad it worked out (sort of). Did you have them resting on top of the closed tail gate, or was it down?

Tailgate was down, I had ratchet straps secured at the rear of the bed where my bed stiffeners are. Problem is the exit from the parking lot is on an incline. Way too much weight for a taco. And once it shifted it was over

a full size 8' bed without extra tie downs Most likely the same thing would have happened

I made a support to sit on the bed rails and the load goes between that and the roof one day when I needed to haul 20' steel .

I could not wait for the next delivery.

Sometimes life throws curve balls, it’s all how you handle that curve ball man. Had many ups and downs in the last 3 months and I think it’s starting to be less of an up and down curve. My marriage will end up with a divorce. Just gotta do right for our 2 boys (14)-(16) . It really took a toll on me fellas. I have an amazing support group around me whose really been my life line. I never would of known this would of taken me out like it did.

Anyway, I’m working on slowly getting back into what I’ve been missing in life now and trying to find myself and take care of the boys.

Depression and anxiety that I fought was scary. The lack of sleep, rest, brain doesn’t shut down while your body is worn out exhausted trying to sleep …. Insomnia. Fought it all and still fighting some but in lesser amounts.

Iv been seeing a pastor for counseling who has been amazing!! Guiding me into ways of thinking of how god needs me to think and take control of what I can control. My boys need there father to be healthy enough to take care of them… damn straight they do fellas! When you fight with yourself, sometimes you think it’s easier to take the easy way out….. don’t think this way. Find help! To make you realize that what’s important in your life really needs you to stand tall and take a positive direction in life and make it right again!

One day at a time, one hurdle at a time, to much at one time will make you want to jump off that cliff you’ve been hanging onto

I have 2 pugs and looking back at what I’ve gone through…. I feel so bad because I ignored them… not fully but paid little attention to them because of all the energy I used to think I could get my wife back.

Too much for the tailgate apparently, not the truck itself. I had the 12 pieces of lumber split into 3 sections of 4, and where those sections were, my tailgate is bent out so much that my topper didnt want to latch.

@T-yoda , sorry to hear about this man. Your darn straight the boys need you and so do many others I'm sure.
I can feel your pain and sure many of us have been there...
If there's anything I can guarantee 100% it's that the hurt will eventually pass, may certainly take some time but it will.
Important to stay positive, don't talk down about the others involved, not good for kids...I'm sure you know this.
Hang in there, someone to chat with is just a PM away. Be strong Dave.

Something funny there... I've had well over 500 lbs on my tail-gate and it's not caused any issues. I would suggest leaving the tail-gate up, and resting the lumber on it. That makes it a LOT less likely to wind up on the road, and much easier to secure too.
