Has anyone had or experienced a bad torque converter? I have a 19 trd sport 4x4 and when speeding up on highway it almost feels like it's jerking. I payed attention to the rpms and they don't seem to jump not thinking clutch. Anyone else have this issue and if so what did you find out? How did you fix. I have the updated Trans file and KDMax tune installed.

I experience this when accelerating between 30-40 mph usually. I’ve just attributed it to being a “Tacoma quirk” which so often is the answer I get. By RPM’s aren’t affected either. I’m curious to know others answers to this.

Just around 40mph (<1500rpm, light acceleration). No fix that I've heard of for that.
If yours is acting up outside of that range it might be worth changing the trans fluid a few times.

My 2020 does it. I started using sequential mode in town or less that highway speed. Solved my issue.

On a side note I had a small increase in my city gas milage once I started using S mode. I put mine in 4th and it doesn't shift higher. So less engine load. Less transmission lugging also.

Had Trans flush and diff flushes. It is exactly like what yours is doing. Sometimes in higher rpms though, getting up in speed on highway it will jitter. I find it hard to believe that toyota can't correct it though.

I agree. I'm sure they could program it out.
I bought a shift sense pro to keep the rpms higher, but I wasn't a big fan of the shift points.
Decided I'd use S4 in town and just live with it.

I got the kdmax tune, it shifts smooth now with no gear hunting and great throttle response. This is only thing that bugs me.

What you're feeling is likely slip lock with the torque converter. Not sure how much you know about TC's but the Tacoma is capable of doing a partial lock, which may cause a shuddering feeling. Stock typically feels it in 3rd gear. 2nd and 3rd if you're a 2020+ MY.

I'm not sure where the KD tune would put you but I would bet that's what's going on, especially if the RPM's aren't bouncing around.

That's just it RPMs don't move ‍♂️ feels like when you have a manual and you press pedal in to high of gear. That's est way I can explain it.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me. If you have a way to monitor what's going on, you'll be able to tell if the TC is half locked.

Haven't noticed anything like that on my 2020 sr5 ...it runs perfect. My buddies 2019 trd has some minor vibration stuff , but the dealer assured him its common on that trim, and not to be concerned about.

Yes, it was. Kd max actually cleared all other issues up.

Looks like you're trying to be a tuner, based on a question you posted earlier in November. If you don't already, get yourself something to monitor the truck and what it's doing.

Otherwise, get the person who tuned you to monitor.

Without that, there's nothing more we can help you with until we get more information.
