Hello All, I am a new member here. I live in Southern Baja and I have a 2022 Tacoma "Edicion Especial" arriving in two weeks. Here in Mexico we dont get too many options when we want to buy a Tacoma. There is no custom orders except the colors. The 2022 comes in three versions; "Sport" (2 Wheel Drive Prerunner), "Sport 4x4", and "Edicion Especial" which is 4x4 with leather interior, and a few extra options.
Anyways; I have my name on one in Blue Crush Metallic. My question is this; I will not be doing any hardcore 4-wheeling, but I do live in Baja and drive on rough dirt roads daily. I also do a lot of highway driving. I am looking to do a 2" lift with slightly larger tires. I would like something that doesn't hurt highway driving too much, yet helps absorb some of the bumps and washboard when on dirt roads. I appreciate any insights and direction.
    -Thanks!

Let me be the first to say, "don't lift it.". The truck is more than capable as it.

Edit: now that that's out of the way, I'm following for the rest of the comments as I'll probably not follow my own advice and lift mine an inch or two at some point.:rofl:

Your soon to be truck is very capable. Slow down for bumps on washboard dirt roads. If you “can’t” slow down and travel long distance on washboard roads look into rear shocks with an external reservoir.

If the roads are very poor consider E load tires. Slightly more punctual resistance.

Rough country suspension. Does a great job for fraction of the cost of higher end suspensions. I'm sure I'll get flak by all the Richards and Karen's on here but I don't do the Baja every weekend either . If you dd your taco RC susp is more budget friendly .

    Suggest to postpone the lift.

Drive the truck for a few months. Learn how capable the truck is, then you may have a different view regarding the "need to lift".

    Welcome to Tacoma World :hattip:
Congratulations on the pending new truck! Looks like a great color choice, I haven't seen one in the wild yet.

Right off the showroom floor these trucks are very capable, I recommend driving it for a several thousand miles and really living with it to identify what you feel are weak spots performance wise.

You might find that all that is needed is a tire change to meet your needs.

This is great advice. I've put off a lift and have just been enjoying it stock for about 5K miles. While I love the look of a mild lift (and I may still do it down the road), I'm leaning toward just slightly beefier tires and maybe a 17" wheel.

OP, congrats on the new truck. I agree with everyone else -- drive it first and see how it feels. I have a TRD OR (2020). I am not doing hardcore off roading and feel like I don't need a lift at all. My 2005 had a lift when I bought it and frankly I didn't need it. You will only know this after you drive it for awhile as many good folks have suggested here.

All that said, maybe look at the Toyota TRD lift kit? I know it is controversial and that there are better lift kits to be had for less money but it is under Toyota warranty and all that. Honestly, if I were to do a lift (which I probably won't unless I start doing more challenging off roading), I would talk to the dealer about doing the Toyota lift and really seeing if that is all that I needed.

    Here is some background info:

Good luck! And post back what you decide.

Drive your stock truck to evaluate your needs. I needed to lift my truck for my adventures…

I did Bilstein 5100s with OME-885 Coils and 1.5” tapered rear blocks. 33in Cooper LTX.

I drove without lift for 3 years. It was more than capable, especially with upsized, aggressive tires. But that's when you start losing mpg, especially on the highway.

Didn't bother me, as I knew going in it would do that. After all, I bought a Truck, not a Prius.

But now that I have the 2/1" Bilstein 5100 Lift, I love it even more. Looks very lifted, but still rides like stock. Can't wait to put on 33" pizza cutters next.

depends on how much load you are carrying.

Not much load, leave it stock.

If you have load, upgrade the rear shocks, preferably to a RR setup like 5160s (or better) and add an AAL.

Lifting the truck for dirt road travel is completely unnecessary.

I lifted about 1" in front and 3/4" in the rear with 6112's and 5160's. The washboard/ fire road performance has been a night and day difference from stock. 30-40 mph is comfortable and controllable. The stock shocks faded in no time at a slower pace.

Edit to add-I should mention that these shocks are much more firm then stock over slow compression bumps and imperfections. They soften up the faster the shock compresses. If you take your washboard road at the same speed as your stock truck, it will be less comfortable. To this point, upgraded bump stops are a good idea.

I’d go with the Bilstein 5100’s on the 4th/5th perch on factory coils with either rear AAL or new spring pack - more than enough for what you are looking at, maintains great ride and fairly inexpensive.
