So does the loop go over the top or under?

If it goes under, it's not covering the open slot that allows the tailgate to come out.

How did you get yours on?

Do you have a 2021 TRD OR?

Here are some pics of mine without removing the bolt to attach the clamp. Just by looking at it, how did you finagle the clamp in there?

Looking at this, I would say bolting it on and then trying to install it with that "U" opening on the tailgate...did not work for me.

Now, I saw this photo from post# 594 on this thread but wondered how did it get installed that way?

It's like the clamp was put under the post then bolted on afterwards. That seems awkward.

It goes on after you put your tailgate back on, then slip device on,
PM me and I'll give you my number and walk you through it, I must say that it's a first, installed that way, lol. It's really not that hard.

I'll try again tomorrow. It seemed awkward because I don't wanna drop the tailgate simply because I don't know the process.

The clamp goes on first under the post... then then the gate goes on. Then the bolt can be tightened after the clamp is in place.

But the original bolt needs to be removed prior to so the new bolt can be screwed in.

Step 1. Take your tailgate off and loosen the lower. T40 screw.
Step 2. Put your tailgate on, and in the down position.
Step 3. Slip the Anti theft device on
Step 4. Remove the lower T40 screw
Step 5. Align the ATD hole and put the tamper proof screw or OEM screw back in and tighten

    Chris,

I was a little anxious so I put my headlight on and went to the truck...

Without loosening the T40 bolt, I tried the fit check from step 3 but I had to finagle the gate (lifting it up and down) to allow the clamp to completely loop around the base.

Got it to fit...but then, I noticed the hole didn't line up properly. I know it would be better to loosen the T40 but even with just the clamp loosely in position, the clamp was rubbing against the post like the roundness of the clamp prevented it from rounding the post. Also, the C-clamp handle would need to be flush against the tailgate base clamp and it doesn't look like it will line up.

This is without loosening the T40 bolt...it may work but I'll have to have my son-in-law loosen the T40 while I hold the tailgate and then see if the clamp sticks/makes the tailgate harder to open/close. Adjusting it to make it fit seems to me like it will affect the overall swivel/swing upwards when closing.

    UPDATE:

Today, I had my son-in-law (SIL) TRY to loosen the bolt closest to the tailgate to FIT-CHECK the C-clamp...no dice!

First, he tried it with an extended breaker bar attached to T40 bit and all it did was slightly strip the factory tightened bolt.

Second, we tried it with my cordless impact gun and it did not budge the T40 screw.

SIL said we'd have to use an impact driver to loosen it (we don't have one of those).

Sadly, this is just not going to work for my truck.

Also, the screw that came with the C-clamp is a specialty type (security style) head if used.

Thanks Chris for all your assistance.
