New to me 2012 Taco, feeling low

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks

    I made a collection of 'spare' wheels, added trim rings and 235x75 tires. You will get 1" of real lift (axle line ground clearance) with that size tire, and no rubbing problems.

    Think twice about a 3" lift. It might dampen your joy of the carlike ride your 5 lug has.

    I've had a prerunner before, and I'm going for that type of ride hoping the 3" will do that.

    6 lug trucks are totally different suspensions than our 5 lugs. The parts do not mix and match.

    Prerunners also use 16" wheels.
    The 15" wheels with 235 75R15 tires may look undersized with a 3" lift

    Thanks again for the valuable info. I was reluctant to use Facebook marketplace since I don't have a social media account, and like you I believe it's a bunch of BS. But if you don't need to have an actual Facebook account I will look into it.

    I got a good Black Friday deal on 235/75/15 Wrangler Trailrunner ATs. They'll be installed next week. After that I'll decide if I get the lift kit. The kit itself is only 230 dollars, but I'm getting 700 dollar quotes to get it installed, which sounds stupid for 2 hours of work. I don't have a garage yet so nowhere to do it myself, plus I'm not sure if I have the skills. In the spring I'll plastidip the stock wheels.

    Inspired by TheBigKahuna's upgrade, I decided to go the 16" Highlander wheel route to make a minor wheel/tire upgrade to my 2012 Tacoma, it's old but new to me :)

    My goal is to make the truck look better but not deviate too much from the overall stock diameter of the OEM 215/70R15 wheel/tires which results in a 26.85" overall diameter.

    As such I've acquired four 16" alloy wheels originally on a 2006 Highlander (Toyota PNs: 4261148090, 4261148080, 16x6.5jj rim size, ET35).

    I don't do any off-roading or dirt roads with the truck. Just street and highway driving, and will occasionally haul some not so heavy items around town.

    I'm trying to decide between the following two tires:
    1. Kumho CRUGEN HT51 225/70R16 103T UTQG: 720AA => 28.40" [1.55" larger than stock]
    2. Continental TrueContact Tour 225/65R16 100T UTQG: 800AB => 27.52" [0.67" larger than stock]

    The price is the same, and both tires appear to be similarly rated. The sidewall height is slightly less in the 65R16 tire than on the stock and 70R16 tire setups, but not enough for me to care much. My thinking is that since the 65R16 tire is closer in diameter to the stock setup, I should not have any fit issues and the speedometer difference will be less.

    I am not sure which tire would result in better handling of the truck. Any opinions as to which would be the better tire to go with ?

    After closely reading all the reviews on Tire Rack for these two tires. It looks like the Kumho is used by a lot of pickup trucks, and the Continental tire is rarely used on a pickup truck.

    Of the 254 reviews of the Continental TrueContact Tour, I found only one reviewer using a pickup truck, a Tacoma at that.

    Whereas amongst the 347 reviews of the the Kumho CRUGEN HT51, after sifting thru the first 200 or so reviews I found 112 pick-up truck owners, including 8 Tacoma and 14 Tundra owners.

    So it looks like the Kumho is the way to go for my Tacoma.
