Lets see your plow setups

I've plowed sand a few times with the front air dam thing when the ruts get deep on the beach.

 

I'll post mine when I switch from leaves (Cyclone Rake) to snow (SnoWay 22r 7' 6" polycarb) in my garage . It looks like the same low mount I have as the HTX and I haven't hit anything, yet.

The SnoWay setup is supposed to be 10"-11" from the ground for those interested. Installed myself with 6 grade8 bolts. Pretty simple install. Weighs about 275#'s and the downpressure is necessary. Upstate NY (midHudson Valley) and stacking snow is a must some years. Wireless controller too so no inside cab install. Pricey at ~$5k

 

The only magic is when you decide you've had enough of winter and move. Took 10 years of living in northern Vermont for it to happen to me. After I moved and heard they had had their first decent snow back up north and I was sitting by the pool, THAT was magical

 

I run the same on my 2nd gen. Luckily got it off CL. Used it the past 5+ years in mid Hudson valley as well, including a couple 2ft storms. Love it.

 

What set up do you have? Currently on the market for a plow for my 2017 Tacoma after dealing with a beater that's rusted out and having issues.

 

I got the snowbear with electric actuator up/down. Came with Wireless or wired controller.

If you can afford it go with a fisher or something more heavy duty. It got bent up after only 2 plows. I just kept running it while arguing with snowbear to cover it under their warranty. They refused. By the end of the winter it was barely hanging on for dear life. Brought it to my buddy this fall and he welded up some new supports and added some welds to strengthen it. Works better than new now. It does the job, but if I could go back in time I would spend more on a better one.

 

It also is front hitch mounted so I had to buy that also. When I bought the plow, it was around $1700-1800. Now it’s way more. And I personally don’t think the quality is worth the new price.

 

I have time this week to read more posts and I cannot for the life of me figure out why people feel the need to post so much useless crap on this forum - or where they get the time.

The OP posed a real life question for someone that lives in a cold climate and more than one responder felt the need to urge him to move to a warmer climate. Why ? Do you count how many posts you have and see it has ticked up one or maybe trying to bait someone into an argument ? There is no other legit reason.

Trust me I love this sight and have gotten some excellent information but when "what's your favorite color" goes to 84 pages who has time to follow that ?

Here is a real comment - I didn't think these trucks were rated for plowing and Toyota advises against it. Kinda like Jeep Wranglers.

 

Anyone here familiar with the Meyer homeplow set up? Thinking of getting one, didn't see any pics of it yet. Worried it could end up like Dishsoaps plow though. Planning on using it for personal driveway only, maybe the parents a few times a year.

I was going to do a front hitch setup but after getting one, Meyer Home Plow, and it was defective. Then taking 2.5 weeks to get it shipped back which was hell in itself. Then the lack of any available Meyer Home Plows at all I decided to go with a real plow setup. Local company here had on in stock and arranged to have it installed with in a week. That was the beginning of December. As for cost around 5K for the plow and installation.

 

Nice! How much was the equipment without the installation? Would like to save some money.

Also was the meyer really that bad? I was banking on using that for my home driveway only but now you're scaring me into thinking it'll get bent. Do you think I need a full heavy duty plow for that?

 

Can't really say how good or bad the Meyer plow would have been. I never had the chance to use it. One thing about it it was only hydraulic up and down. The Angle of the plow was determined on how much snow was on one side. It would auto angle.. You could have pinned it at the angle but if you wanted to plow straight you would have to get out of the truck and remove the pin.

This plow is full hydraulic. 4.1K for just the plow assembly. Install was 675. Then of course there is the state tax on top of that..

Twins! Just picked this thing up off craigslist. How do you like it?

 

So far so good. I like the idea of moving snow from the comfort of my warm truck listening to XM tunes...

 

I added Timbrens on all 4 corners to help with loaded ride manners, as well as 5100’s and SS brake lines. Same mods I ran on my 09 OR with a plow and it worked out great.

Only issue is retaining factory stalk control for hi/low beam selection with factory LED setup. BOSS either doesn’t have an adaptor available, or its backordered .
Currently I have to use a separate 3 way toggle switch to change hi/low beam on the plow which is a pain. Waiting to hear back from BOSS to see if there is a fix yet .

I had wanted the Poly 7’ blade, but at the time there was a 4 month back order, so I have 7’6” steel. The added weight makes turning wheel a little ‘draggy’ when pulling out of a parking space. Once moving, that resistance begins to go away, and is completely unnoticeable at 5mph+.

Edit: Update. After plowing 9+ inches of dry, powdery snow in this weekend’s Nor’easter, Im happy to report this setup worked beautifully. Zero issues with the BOSS and the Tacoma . 24 driveways and not one hiccup.

 

My old 2nd gen setup with a 6’7” Western Suburbanite . 10 years of light duty plowing on it with very few issues. I had to strengthen a few welds when my work load increased. Also replaced the rubber trip bands as they were starting to dry rot.
Struggled at times with ‘mashed potato’ wet snow.. Anything over 5-6” required plowing parking lots/driveways twice before more significant accumulations . But it is definitely recommended for light duty/ personal snow plowing.

 

HTX is a breeze to mount/dismount. One finger to flip a switch as the plow is self powered.. Just need to line up correctly, the unit does the rest. It takes more effort to bend down and plug the harnesses together. Level/flat ground is key.
