This is all in Cdn dollars. Just saw this on the news. Guy with a Merc suv needed a new battery which cost him $500. 17 months later it needed replaced again and MB would not honour the warranty because he did not put enough miles on the vehicle in that time period to keep the battery charged !!!!

What is "MB"? In my years of industrial, commercial, and automotive battery sales, never once did I experience a battery warranty rejection like that here in the States. As a matter of fact, the manufacturers we represented would fall all over us (the distributor) to exchange any battery that failed prematurely.
There has to be more to the story.

I feel real bad for some guy who displays his wealth (or credit line) by driving a Mercedes.
    Wait, no I don't.

FWIW. Similar issue happened last winter with our '19 Honda CR-V.

The car sits in the garage, wife works from home, errands are run by my daughter of myself. So, the '02 Chevy and my Tacoma get regular use. The CR-V has all the nanny gadgets causing parasitic drain on the battery. Needed to use the CR-V, battery didn't have enough oomph to light the dashboard. The car had not been used in about 2 months. It was a bugger just to open the doors. Managed to get it jumped, drove it for 2 hours at highway speeds. Arrived back home, shut it off in the driveway, tried a restart.........nothing.....battery totally hammered. A very insistent battle with Honda to replace the battery. Now, we make a habit of driving the CR-V more frequently.

About 2 weeks later, the battery in the '02 Chevy froze. It was 6 years old. This year, I suspect the battery in the Tacoma will die, it is 6 years old.

A deeply discharged battery does not recover.

A tip: Always buy the battery with the most CCA you can fit.

Again, CCA's don't mean squat for long term storage or anything unless the vehicle is in an area at 0 degrees F! Please educate yourself before spewing this pablum.

    YOU phunny.

I live in an area with frequent -0*F Temperatures. I said nothing about how long the battery will last.

"spewing pablum" My experience is not spew.

The points maybe too subtle. Let me elucidate....

Point 1: Parasitic drain is common on vehicles equipped with all the nanny devices. These machines need to be run on a regular basis to keep the battery in good condition.
Point 2: Maximum CCA will provide better starting power in any temperature below 32*F. Below this temperature, battery performance begins to fall. Believe it or not, the electricity from a battery depends on the chemical reaction within the battery. High school chemistry teaches reactions slow with dropping temperature.

Thanks for the offer of giving me education, but I don't think you would be a skilled teacher.

Ok, so it seems like the takeaway are:
    1. Drive your vehicle at least enough to charge the battery, or put it on a battery tender.
    2. If you don't do #1 don't expect to get a warranty replacement battery, which for the Taco means you're out of pocket around $150.
    3. Don't buy a Mercedes.
Thank you. I will rest easy now.

All the guy needed was a good trickle charger, I like Noco one's because it can do AGM parameters

This. The original battery on my H-D was still good at 7+yrs (tended). Changed it out on general principles. OTOH, I've never heard of a battery replacement warranty denied on mileage (too low or high). When we sell a battery at Napa, the date code is picked and that's it, done. After two years, it may possibly be pro-rated, prior to that if it tests bad, here's your new battery. Sounds like the OEM's just found another way to bend the customer over IMO...:notsure:

The two HD Electra Glides I've owned the batteries died at 2 years like clockwork, and they were on tenders since they left the dealer (both bought new). That's amazing that you got 7 years out of one of them.

I own a Mercedes. I've owned several of them. I've also owned BMW's, Audi's and multiple Lexus's. I've owned several GM products, Ford products, Chrysler as well as Toyota products. And from my experience Mercedes makes a car/suv that rides and drives in my opinion better than all of them. Again that's from my experience. And many auto makers now make vehicles that people can "display" their wealth with.
Go take a look at the price of a fully loaded full size truck or SUV from one of the big 3 automakers. Especially one with a diesel.
