So he said it's available; lots of interest but no commitment from anyone.

He said he'd help me install it this Saturday; he did add that the previous owner of the 4Runner said the bumper was made for a 1st Gen Tacoma...I'm not familiar with the difference in the frame horns exactly. Is it that the 4R's are wider or something?

    Here's his 4R -

    received_432613981761125.jpg

I'm thinking it has to do with a tab or something that maybe needs cutting off. I can take my angle grinder and cut off discs with me.

Better yet, if I have time I'll just remove my bumper tomorrow after class.

Early 4Runners 96-98. Have the same style frame horns as 98-00 Tacomas.

99-02 have the flat plates at the end.

The frame horns are the same width, but the bolt locations are slightly different. When I put a '98 4Runner bumper on my '98 Tacoma, only two (out of four) of the mounting bolts lined up. Does the bumper you're looking at use the original mounts?

    Thank you sir

I'll look up later how the inital plate bolts onto the frame horns.

Been too busy to look it up.

I'm trying to remember... I think bumpers like that usually bolt in place of the crush cans and tow hooks. The original bumper mounts might not be used at all.

The frame ends, whether they're the triangular pieces on early models, or the flat piece on later models, are removed for the use of this bumper.

Ah right, that's the Trail Gear bumper? It uses the tow hook mount points. Looks like it might also use the bumper mounts, but the instructions aren't clear about that.

    https://trail-gear.ca/pub/media/trailGearInstructions/tacoma-front-bumper-instructions.pdf

I was thinking of the All Pro Apex bumper, which also uses the frame ends. With that bumper, you weld in new frame ends after cutting them for 98-00 Tacomas. For 01-04, it bolts to the factory ends.

I think I kinda like it better when the frame pokes through the mounting plate

I welded on new frame caps with thicker bolts. When I get the time I will make some plates for the bumper and bolt it in there too.

That “clean and mint” transfer case I had on the shelf might be blown. It shifts through 2H, 4H, N, and 4L. But the input shaft does not spin at all in any position.

Might be in the market for a clean lower mile case. Not that many of those exist. I just don’t want to reinstall the 300K+ case with a crack over the drain plug.

Verified it was indeed the catalyst monitor that won't set. Maybe I'll drive to work in 4lo this morning and see what happens, need to map out a straight line there

Really though I think I just to to take it wheeling again and I bet that will set it. Long highway drive there and a bunch of high RPM driving in-between. Hopefully it sets and doesn't toss a cat code.

    Annoying
