    The universe is large alright.
But the distance between stars is great as well.
Interstellar travel ain't happening without the ability to travel faster than light.
(Wormholes, Space Folding, Warp Drive...whatever is your favorite method).

It may not be possible, and if not, forget alien visits.
If I recall correctly, Isaac Asimov called it the "Quarantine of Interstellar Distance", or something similar.
(Maybe my memory is at fault here and it wasn't Asimov, but you get the idea).
This despite the fact that he postulated "hyperdrive" as an essential basis of his novels, of which Foundation is the best known.

Then there's the problem of the "Great Silence".
Decades of the SETI project monitoring radio waves reaching Earth for any signals definitely not the product of natural phenomena has produced...
    ...Zip, Nada.

Personally, I doubt an advanced alien civilization capable of "hyperdrive" is gonna play peekaboo with us.
I think we'd know pretty quickly if they came here.

    Do intelligent aliens exist?
Odds are, they do...but they're almost unimaginably far away.

    Besides...

Baked tater with butter, sour cream, cheese and chili. Breakfast this good is probably illegal.

Seriously though… that’s why I don’t get all the bazillions being spent on space exploration. Even if we could travel at light speed it would take two lifetimes to reach the nearest planet. All that wasted money could feed and shelter everyone on earth. Build new bridges and water desalination plants, etc. It’s just stupid.

Aliens don’t scare me. It’s the local crowd.
This dude holds the Guinness World Record for the most body modifications — at 516. These include 453 piercings, 278 on his pecker.:eek::eek:
