Did you extract the files from the zip drive and place them in the root directory of your flash drive?
How big is your flash drive?
What format is your flash drive?

I did extract the files with the archive utility and put them on a 4GB thumb drive formatted FAT with disk utility. I only put the kwi files in the root directory no other files or folders. Is it because I'm using my Macintrash computer at work? maybe I need a real PC?

    Thanks KTBELL444
I was having bluetooth issues on my highlander 2018-2019 where the phone would disconnect from the radio and message displayed call ended while the call would stay on the phone.
i was looking for update files everywhere for .160.kwi and finally someone mentioned your link.
I have updated 13TDANNA-DA11_0164.kwi which is newer and the update went smoothly, am yet to test it but finger crossed.
thank you soo much for posting it.

Would the two file thing apply to a 2016 w/Premium Entune?
Per the PDF, here's my head unit's stamp on the bottom right:

    upload_2021-11-18_18-41-58.jpg

    Matches Premium Audio. TRD Sport.

    upload_2021-11-18_18-42-10.jpg

This is all that is on the flash drive:

    upload_2021-11-18_18-42-20.jpg

    Formatted FAT32. It's 8GB and USB 2.0 only.

    upload_2021-11-18_18-42-32.png

And this is my updates screen.

    upload_2021-11-18_18-47-2.jpg

I think it's updated a time or two but not for several years, and it's an October 2015 build. Usually has no issue but had it glitch out a few times in the last month or so.

I'd love something with CarPlay but just can't justify the price when I already have a perfectly fine phone mount that's been in here for 6 years. And it's all hooked up to the OEM Audio + system so I'd rather not mess with it. Figured why not try an update, what's the harm right?

EDIT: Ignore me. I copied the file to my Windows 7 Virtual Machine. Formatted the flash drive from Windows Explorer again as FAT32. Copied the file back. And boom, it’s recognized. Good ol Windows.
Disk Utility must do something just slightly different.

I stumbled across this thread, followed @ktbell444's instructions and got my Multimedia system updated. Every now and then the inter-webs is actually useful. Thanks!

I purchased a subscription to Toyota's TIS. It has some useful things in there.

I always thought there was no update by checking OTA. I followed the directions here (toyota link), put my VIN in, and it stated to download 3 files. Put them on a FAT32 USB 16GB, and the system recognized the files right away. Install took like 6-7 minutes. No issues at all...thanks! I see the interface is different for the menu (changed from round to square), but it didn't fix a minor issue I've had since new (1 March) and have not researched a fix. I mainly use USB music. Mostly Hi-Res FLAC and I have some CD quality .mp3 in there too. The album art only shows when the truck is in Park. Put it in Drive and the album art goes away and shows the plain USB symbol. Not a big deal, but wish this update would have fixed that. Otherwise, all seems good so far. Happy Thanksgiving!

That makes me afraid to update. I use a USB flash drive exclusively for music. My 2017 displays album art while in Park or in Drive. If I update they might force this new "feature" upon me to make it "better". o_O

Yep! Always risk with software updates. Like updating a PC's BIOS. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I was hoping the album art would show while in drive (only complaint), but not fixed. I'll research it someday as my issue could be so many things. Maybe because I'm using mostly FLAC files. I too only use USB music. No subscriptions needed, no talk, no commercials, etc. Just music.

Yep...as OP posted. Hi-Res FLAC work great. Not sure when Toyota started that with the Tacoma since this is my first one (prior F-150 owner...POS).

There is a bit rate limit on the FLAC files that can be played by the HU. I have some albums in 32 bit rate FLAC, and the Tacoma HU cannot play those. When I set up my USB back in March, I recall only putting on 16 and 24 bit rate FLAC files. The HU plays them fine. Just no album art when shifted into drive. Not sure I'd convert just for the HU to display album art. That would take days if not weeks for something like 20GBs of music. Perhaps a future firmware update will resolve it. Now I know how to really check for it thanks to all in this thread. If your HU shows album art all the time with USB music, I'd think it best to not update if there's no current issues for the features you use in the system.

Spent all day with this and no luck. Mine is 2017 TRD OR DC. USB stick is Kingston 32gb formatted in fat32. My current version is 010192 and tried to update to 0101A4. The HU will not recognize the file. Frustrated! Tried with NAV microsd card in and out with same results. IMG_0880.jpg IMG_0881.jpg IMG_0882.jpg
