Reason being I’ve seen people get it CARB legal and BAR approved. Would be harder trying to get something like an LS to fulfill those qualifications.

 

Eh not really, both swaps you will need to take the entire emissions systems from the vehicles and LS don't have a lot of them.

 

Chevy Trailblazer comes to mind if you're trying to go GM V8 and need to meet GVWR limits.

Older model came with a V6 and V8.

 

I’m not really worried about the emissions part TBH. It’s figuring out how the hell I’d merge a Toyota body system to a Chevy body system. Gauges, AC, etc.

Sitting down with 2 wiring diagrams and a bundle of harness is second nature by now right

 

Run the chevy harness/brains.

You'd need to anyway for that OBD2 check.

Everything else like brakes, steering, etc is all mechanical for the most part.

I'd be curious to see just how custom one would need to go for the transfer case and tranny.

4L80 is what you want, but those are gonna be more spendy and come behind larger engines like the 6.0L. You'd probably end up with a 4.8 or 5.3 and 4L60E or 4L65E

 

I’d like to retain the SRS system too, no matter how primitive it is. That I think I’d need to keep the Toyota system.

 

There's no point in keeping that, switch to a less shitty steering wheel and put a 95-97 dash in, now you have room for the ECU haha

 

that reminds me I still need to do the seatbelt and airbag delete
