If it’s not too personal, what were Jack and Lou’s connection with the crew? It it is, I’ll delete this post. TIA.

 

That was my mom's side grandparents. From what I've been told, Jack when he wasn't flying for NWA after he left the Air Force, he ran some sort of commercial fishing operation, and a grip of astronauts came through over the years. Friendships were made, and at some point, he received the above picture.

He passed when I was still pretty young (mid gradeschool as I remember) and I wish now that I had been able to get to know him more and hear his interesting stories. From what my dad tells me, he was the kinda guy you had to pry that stuff out of if you even knew what to pry. For example, we didn't even know he had earned a DFC from Gen LeMay himself until after he passed and my grandma made a comment about him earning one in passing one night. My dad being a fellow USAF aviator was like "um...that's kind of a big deal. Do you have it?" "oh, who knows, its buried in the garage somewhere."

He also got one from the Apollo-Soyuz mission crew of the WA peninsula.

Those are remarkable pieces and quite the accomplishments for your family. That ASTP pic is outstanding!
