He was behind then braked a LOT too late and then made little to no effort to leave room for Hamilton. When that has happened in the past it has not mattered whether it was driver's error or intentional. He retained an advantage over the opposing driver and the result has been a five second penalty. I understand why Toto is pissed because a five second penalty would have moved Verstappen into third creating a larger points gap between Verstappen and Hamilton and it would have added a little buffer to Merc in the constructors championship. There is a lot of money involved. I also understand why people are happy with the decision because nobody wants to see the championships decided by race officials. Especially this year when the contests are so tight and the perception that penalties have been allocated inconsistently.

so far i've seen Peter Windsor, Scott Mansell (Driver61), Marc Priestly, and a couple others I can't remember all say that the lack of investigation/referral to stewards is inconceivable. they aren't sensationalists, either. oh well. i just want to see Horner squashed like the bug he is.

They both went off and Hamilton won so what is the issue? I honestly don't care what other drivers from different era's have to say about modern formula 1 and it's wild rules and regs.

When he blamed Mexico qualifying by saying they got “Tsunoda’d”, it showed how low class he is. I just hope he doesn’t screw over Perez after how good he’s been for them.

You two can't possibly be serious. Verstappen in third instead of second would decrease the points gap to Hamilton by 3 points. And more importantly decrease the points gap in the constructors championship. In 2020 the column 2 prize money difference between first and second place was something like $20M or $30M. I can't be bothered to look.

And I'll give you a tip about how all sporting events work so you don't ask questions like that and get laughed at in the future. None of them, including F1, wait for the final result before deciding whether a penalty is warranted based on whether it would or wouldn't have inpacted the results. :)

So the FIA always make the right call on races regarding rule violations and this is the incident that needs securitizing?

Nope and nope. Not that you should have but if you had read my very recent posts on the incident you wouldn't have needed to ask.

Likewise, that Merc in Hamiltons hands this weekend with the new engine turned up to 10 was crazy quick... Hopefully the designers build George a car that will fit him...

On a side note, a really shit couple of races for McLaren :angrygirl:
