Glad you're alright Patrick. sounds like you had a fun adventure, got some good help, and have a new interesting story to tell!

It would be interesting if the future of car technology is able to come up with a braking system, fit for passenger cars, that is less susceptible from failures due to fluid leaks.

While air brakes are cool that they're able to constantly generate the fluid needed for braking and have kind-of fail safe with the spring brakes, they definitely don't make sense for cars. And while liquid hydraulic brakes are cool that they don't throw away their fluid every time you let off the brake and theres no wait time to build pressure, one leak and they get all squishy

almost like how fuel injected 2-stroke combines the 2-stroke cycle with separate oil and fuel volumes to combat the shortcomings of both 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines.

This is directed at anyone else considering getting a GPS messaging device, but think about what your life is worth to you (a bit dramatic, I know). The off-brand ones, specifically Spot, have been known to straight up not work when you hit the SOS button and that would be a real punch in the gut should you be in a real emergency. I did some research before landing on the Garmin since ultimately, it was worth it to me.

This isn't a dig at you at all Dave and I hope yours works as intended, this is just a buyer beware type of situation.

I got my Garmin Inreach Mini a couple years ago when I started doing long motorcycle rides. I've been really happy with it. While I've been lucky to not have to use the SOS function yet, the messaging, weather and route tracking functions are fantastic.

Wow, glad you made it out ok. Kudos to this group for looking out for each other, I'm very impressed.

I need to look into this, hopefully it's easier to program then a Baofeng.

I have an app on my phone and tether it to the Garmin via Bluetooth, so I can basically just text my wife like normal. It’s pretty convenient.

@nguyenpatrickt I got a stock rear bumper if you want it. You can take the whole thing or just the cap you need. With Black Friday prices coming up now is the perfect time to invest in a legit bumper.

Slight update to this, if anyone was interested. Ended up packing more cans in there lol, probably close to 1000. The Marching Virginians and VT fans helped to donate around 20,000 food items to the Montgomery County Christmas Store and monetary donations from the MVs playing for fans at Tailgates. The MV Horns, my section, donated the most items per person of any section in the band

About the only thing possible is an all electric brake caliper like you see on consumer grade trailers (non-surge from the tongue) with a gvwr over 3k lbs. I doubt that would be a regular thing unless some kind of redundancy is built in for total loss of battery/alternator power.

    Ha!

I have been browsing these things the last few years and yours is the newest on the market in the last couple of years. That said.. I have a hard time putting faith in the basket after a a nice event across the pond. that that said said. State side most likely will be better at an emergency if needed, but my thought is still in the back of my head, if you know what I mean. I will say this though.. My personal Garmin (etrex Legend) at the time is what worked and got us out of a jam over the Mil. issue equipment.
