I recently had bilstein 5100’s installed on my 19 TRDS. It gave the truck a nice level (I’d like to avoid lifting if I can).

Later down the line I’d like to do a more comprehensive suspension upgrade. But for the time being I’m hoping to throw on some new wheels/AT tires and hit some of the trails in my area.

Currently it’s sitting on factory 17” wheels and some pretty lame looking Firestone economy tires.

With the truck only being leveled I understand it would be difficult, some might even say unwise, to try and stick 285’s in there without at least a body mount chop and 16” wheel.

Would I get better performance with my current setup if I go with a 17” rim and say 265/70r/17 KO2’s?

You don't have much tire option running 16s, compared to 17s. I think you're gonna a CMC no matter what running 285s. People are having to cmc with a 2" lift. I would stick with 17s and probably 275!

I'm running 265/70/17 KO2s with a 1.5 lift up front and 1 inch in the rear. I definitely love the look but your gas mileage will take a hit. When I first got my truck in summer of this year bone stock I was averaging 22-23 MPG now I'm barely averaging above 17 MPG. I did have to also move my caster up to around 3.5 because I was rubbing a bit on the rear part of the front fender plastic. No more rub with that caster and feels way better to drive.

sorry for the late response - thanks for the info! I think chances are I’m going to go with a similar setup to yours. I think lots of people are quick to jump straight to 285’s but between the sluggishness and the clearance issues I think 265’s will be great to start out with

My TRD came with 265’s factory. I don’t understand the need to lift to just keep 265’s? You don’t gain any ground clearance. I’d like to run 285’s at some point. I was hoping the bilsteins would be enough up front to get me there. Will it not???

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
FWIW. 265/70-17 or 265/65-17 will fit without need to lift or hack up mounts.

Buy tires to fit your wants. If you're after bropoints or after tire life or tire noise or traction.......

A good tire is the Michelin LTX AT/2. Although, it won't garner any bro points, but it does hit all the other requirements for noise, traction, life......
