DRY, BUT STILL CLOUDY: Clouds continue to cover most of Alabama early this morning with temperatures mostly in the 40s. Clouds will likely linger much of the day as a wave of low pressure forms in the Gulf of Mexico, but rain with that feature will be confined mainly to the Florida peninsula… Alabama will be dry with a high in the 57-62 degree range. Clearing will finally take place this evening as the disturbance in the Gulf moves eastward.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Look for sunny pleasant days and fair cold nights. The high both days will be in the 64-68 degree range, and morning lows will dip into the mid to upper 30s across much of North/Central Alabama with potential for scattered frost. Colder spots could be close to freezing.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday through Wednesday with highs in the low 70s. We will mention a small risk of a shower Thursday, but the better chance of rain comes on Friday as a cold front passes through. Some thunder will be possible, but for now severe storms are not expected. Much colder air will follow over the weekend (November 13-14)… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TRINITY AT BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN (12:00p CT kickoff at General Krulak Stadium): It will be a sunny day in Birmingham with temperatures between 60 and 64 degrees during the game.

NORTH ALABAMA AT MONMOUTH (12:00p CT kickoff at Long Branch NJ): The sky will be sunny with temperatures in the 53-56 degree range.

ABILENE CHRISTIAN AT JACKSONVILLE STATE (1:00p CT kickoff at Burgess-Snow Field): It will be a sunny day with temperatures mostly in the low 60s during the game.

WEST FLORIDA AT WEST ALABAMA (1:00p CT kickoff at Tiger Stadium): Lots of sunshine in Livingston for this game with temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

CITADEL AT SAMFORD (2:00p CT kickoff at Seibert Stadium): A beautiful day for football;l the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the low 60s during the first half, dropping into the 50s by the fourth quarter.

AUBURN AT TEXAS A&M (2:30p CT kickoff at Kyle Field): Expect a sunny sky with a kickoff temperature near 70 degrees… falling into the 60s during the second half.

SOUTH ALABAMA AT TROY (2:30p CT kickoff at Veterans Memorial Stadium): A great day for football; the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the mid 60s during the first half, falling to near 60 by the final whistle.

LSU AT ALABAMA (6:00p CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium): The sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 50s during first half, reaching the 40s during the second half.

ON THIS DATE IN 1991: Nearly 3,000 individuals were killed in the Philippines when Tropical Storm Thelma produced massive flooding on this day. The storm was the second major disaster of the year as Mount Pinatubo violently erupted on June 12th.

ON THIS DATE IN 2018: Three short lived tornadoes touched down across the Tennessee Valley of Alabama, in Colbert, Lauderdale, and Jackson counties.

We expect a nice warm-up today; most places reach the low 70s this afternoon with a sunny sky. Dry, pleasant weather continues tomorrow and Wednesday… highs in the 71-75 degree range with a good supply of sunshine both days.

RAIN RETURNS THURSDAY: A cold front will bring clouds into Alabama Thursday. Periods of rain are likely Thursday afternoon and Thursday night; a few thunderstorms are possible as well, but severe storms are not expected with the main dynamic support passing well to the north. The main window for rain will come from noon to midnight Thursday, and amounts of around 1/2 inch are expected. Thursday’s high will be in the low 70s for most places.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The sky becomes partly to mostly sunny Friday with a brisk north wind; the high will drop into the 60-65 degree range. The weekend will be dry and colder; we expect a sunny sky Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 50s. Temperatures will be close to freezing by early Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK: For now the week looks dry with highs between 56 and 63 degrees… lows in the 30s and 40s. Still no sign of any severe thunderstorm threat for the next ten days. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A non-tropical low pressure system with storm-force winds is located a couple of hundred miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. This system is forecast to move east-northeastward during the next several days, and it could gradually lose its frontal characteristics by the middle of this week over the subtropical Atlantic Ocean. Thereafter, the low could acquire some subtropical characteristics while it moves eastward or east-northeastward over the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

ON THIS DATE IN 1913: The Great Lakes Storm of November 7-13, 1913, was a blizzard with hurricane-force winds that devastated the Great Lakes Region, sinking as many as 19 ships and stranding 19 others. This storm would be the deadliest and most destructive natural disaster ever to hit the Great Lakes.

ON THIS DATE IN 1994: The twelfth and final tropical cyclone of the Atlantic hurricane season formed in the southwestern Caribbean. While Hurricane Gordon was only a Category 1, it killed 1,149 individuals, including 1,122 in Haiti.

ONE MORE DRY DAY: Temperatures will warm into the 70s again today with a partly to mostly sunny sky, but clouds will increase across Alabama in advance of a cold front. That front will bring occasional showers to the state tomorrow, and possibly a thunderstorm in spots. No risk of severe storms, and rain amounts will be generally around a quarter of an inch for most communities. The rain will end tomorrow night as the front pushes southward.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Friday will feature a good supply of sunshine for most of Alabama… any showers will be confined to the Gulf Coast. The day will be cooler with a high in the low to mid 60s. Then, colder air arrives for the weekend as highs drop into the 50s Saturday and Sunday. Morning lows will be well down in the 30s, and many places will see a freeze early Sunday morning with lows between 27 and 34 degrees. Dry air means sunny days and clear nights.

NEXT WEEK: The week looks generally dry with cool days and chilly nights; a few showers could show by Friday (November 19) as a cold front approaches, but amounts look to be light. Highs will be mostly in the 60s, with lows in the 30s and 40s. Still no sign of any severe weather issues through the next ten days… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Showers and thunderstorms have decreased near the center of a hurricane-force non-tropical low pressure system located a little over 500 miles east-northeast of Bermuda. While a large area of shower activity associated with a frontal boundary persists to the northeast of the low’s center, the system has not yet acquired sufficient characteristics to be classified as a subtropical cyclone. However, some additional development is still possible during the next day or two while upper-level winds become a little more favorable, and a subtropical storm could form during this time. Thereafter, the system is forecast to move over colder water and be absorbed by a larger non-tropical low.

Most of the Atlantic basin remains very quiet.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school playoff games Friday night, the sky will be clear with temperatures mostly in the 40s.

    For the college games Saturday…

NEW MEXICO STATE AT ALABAMA (11:00a CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium): Expect a sunny sky with temperatures rising from near 49 at kickoff, into the mid 50s by the second half.

MISSISSIPPI STATE AT AUBURN (11:00a CT kickoff at Jordan-hare Stadium): With a sunny sky, temperatures will rise from 50 degrees at kickoff, to near 56 by the final whistle.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE AT WEST ALABAMA (1:00p CT kickoff at Tiger Stadium): The sky will be sunny with temperatures in the 50s during the game.

BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN AT MILLSAPS COLLEGE (1:00p CT kickoff at Jackson, MS): A sunny day for the game with temperatures in the 50s.

SOUTH ALABAMA AT APPALACHIAN STATE (1:30p CT kickoff at Boone, NC): Cold and dry weather. Despite a sunny sky, temperatures will be only in the low to mid 40s.

JACKSONVILLE STATE AT LAMAR (4:00p CT kickoff at Beaumont, TX): The sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 65 at kickoff into the 50s by the second half.

ON THIS DATE IN 1975: The SS Edmund Fitzgerald sinks 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Point, at the northeastern tip of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Lake Superior. While the sinking cause is unknown, strong winds and high waves likely played a significant role. The crew of 29 members was lost from this event.

ON THIS DATE IN 2002: The second-largest November tornado outbreak on record over the eastern United States occurred during the Veterans Day weekend of November 9-11th, 2002. Seventy-six tornadoes were reported in seventeen states. Of the 76 tornadoes, almost one out of every six was a killer, resulting in 36 fatalities. In Alabama, ten touched down, including two parallel long track F3 tornadoes. One of them hit Carbon Hill, and four were killed along the path. Another death came from an F2 tornado in Cherokee County. In the Birmingham metro, an F2 touched down at Bessemer

RADAR CHECK: Most of Alabama is dry early this morning, but we note a band of rain and a few thunderstorms across the Mid-South, over West Tennessee down into the Mississippi Delta region. This rain is along a cold front, and it will push into Alabama later this morning. Most of the rain today will come from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m… amounts should be mostly 1/2 inch or less. Some thunder is certainly possible, if not likely, but no severe thunderstorms are expected today with the main dynamic support well to the north. The high this afternoon will be around 70 degrees.

Rain moves out of the state tonight, and the sky will clear as dry air moves back into the state. Tomorrow will be a sunny day with a high in the mid 60s, very close to seasonal averages for mid-November.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: A secondary surge of colder air arrives tomorrow night, and the weekend will feature sunny cool days and clear cold nights. The high Saturday will be in the 50-55 degree range, followed by mid 50s Sunday. Lows will be well down in the 30s, and many communities will see a freeze early Sunday morning with a low between 27 and 34 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week will be dry with mostly sunny days… the high Monday will be in the upper 50s, followed by 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. A cold front will bring rain back into the state by Thursday night and Friday morning… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: A storm-force non-tropical area of low pressure located about 900 miles east-northeast of Bermuda continues to produce a large area of showers that extend from the center northward along an associated frontal boundary. This system is moving northeastward, and it could still become a short-lived subtropical storm before it reaches cooler waters by this evening. By this weekend, the system is expected to be absorbed by a larger non-tropical low.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school playoff games Friday night, the sky will be clear with temperatures mostly in the 40s.

    For the college games Saturday…

NEW MEXICO STATE AT ALABAMA (11:00a CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium): Expect a sunny sky with temperatures rising from near 48 at kickoff, into the mid 50s by the second half.

MISSISSIPPI STATE AT AUBURN (11:00a CT kickoff at Jordan-hare Stadium): With a sunny sky, temperatures will rise from 50 degrees at kickoff, to near 56 by the final whistle.

JACKSONVILLE STATE AT LAMAR (4:00p CT kickoff at Beaumont, TX): The sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 65 at kickoff into the 50s by the second half.

ON THIS DATE IN 1911: A powerful cold front, known as the Great Blue Norther of 1911, produced some of the most extreme temperature changes to the nation’s midsection. In association with this front some cities set both a record high and a record low in the same day. Temperature plunges that have never been recorded before or since shocked the people who were in the cold blast’s path.

Ahead of the cold front, a warm and moist environment caused a severe weather outbreak with several strong tornadoes reported in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. An estimated F4 tornado occurred from Janesville to Milton, Wisconsin, and caused extensive damage to several farms and killed nine people. The citizens of Janesville, Wisconsin, reported blizzard conditions with a temperature near zero within an hour of the tornado.

ON THIS DATE IN 1940: An Armistice Day storm raged across the Great Lakes Region and the Upper Midwest. A blizzard left 49 dead in Minnesota, and gales on Lake Michigan caused shipwrecks resulting in 59 deaths. Up to seventeen inches of snow fell in Iowa, and at Duluth MN, the barometric pressure reached 28.66 inches. The blizzard claimed a total of 154 lives and killed thousands of cattle in Iowa. Huge snowdrifts isolated whole towns.

FOGGY START: A dense fog advisory is in effect for that part of Alabama north of a line from Jackson to Prattville to Ranburne early this morning… visibilities are under 1/8 of a mile in many areas. The fog will dissipate by mid-morning, and we project a sunny day ahead with a high in the mid to upper 60s, very close to seasonal averages for mid-November.

Another cold front will pass through tonight in dry fashion, and the weekend will be noticeably colder. Despite a sunny sky tomorrow, temperatures won’t get past the low 50s over the northern third of Alabama. Sunday will be a sunny day with a morning freeze likely in most places… a freeze watch is in effect as far south as Jackson, Camden, Troy and Eufaula. The low Sunday morning will be in the 27-33 degree range for most communities, followed by a high in the upper 50s.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday through Thursday with highs mostly in the 60s and lows mostly in the 30s and 40s. A cold front could bring some light rain to North Alabama late Thursday or Thursday night, but models continue to trend drier. Still no sign of any severe weather threat for Alabama for the next 7 to 10 days… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

Look for a nice warm-up across the state today; temperatures reach the mid 60s this afternoon with a good supply of sunshine. Dry weather continues through Wednesday with a warming trend… with a sunny sky look for low 70s tomorrow, and mid 70s Wednesday.

Clouds return to Alabama Thursday, and a cold front will bring a chance of showers to the northern half of the state by afternoon. Moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be under 1/4 inch for most places. The high Thursday will be in the upper 60s for most places.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Friday will be sunny and cooler with a high in the 50s. Sunny weather continues Saturday… after a morning low in the 30s we expect a high in the 60s. The day Sunday will be dry, but clouds will increase by afternoon, and some rain is possible late in the day and Sunday night as an upper trough passes through the region. Again, moisture will be limited and rain amounts should be fairly light. Sunday’s high will be in the 62-66 degree range.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: For now the week looks quiet across Alabama, the Deep South, and much of the U.S. as dry air will prevail. The latest CPC outlook for the period November 22-28 suggests temperatures will be below average over the eastern half of the nation. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

Still no sign of any severe weather threat for Alabama for the next 7 to 10 days.

ON THIS DATE IN 1989: A squall line entered Northwest Alabama around 3:00, and at that point it looked like the primary issue during the afternoon and evening hours was going to be straight line winds along the line. Around 4:20, an isolated cell merged with the squall line over the southwest part of Huntsville, near Redstone Arsenal, and within minutes an F4 tornado dropped from the sky, moving through the southern part of Huntsville.

It would destroy or damage 80 businesses, 3 churches, a dozen apartment buildings, and more than 1,000 cars. It moved on, climbing over Garth Mountain, demolishing Jones Valley Elementary School, and destroying 259 homes in the Jones Valley area. All told, the tornado killed 21 people and injured 463. And, unfortunately, there was no tornado warning until several minutes after the twister touched down… this was before Doppler Radar was in operational use in Alabama.

The day after the tornado icy cold air and snow squalls moved into North Alabama as search and rescue operations continued. Visibility at times dropped to a fraction of a mile in heavy snow in Huntsville November 16, 1989.

MILD AFTERNOONS: Dry weather continues across Alabama through tomorrow with partly to mostly sunny days. The warming trend continues; afternoon highs will be in the 70-75 degree range for most places, about 5 to 10 degrees above average.

Clouds return to the state Thursday as a cold front approaches, and a few scattered light rain showers are possible over the northern half of the state by afternoon. Moisture will be very limited, and rain amounts should be under a quarter of an inch for most communities. Thursday’s high will be in the mid to upper 60s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Cooler air returns to the state Friday… despite sunshine in full force temperatures won’t get out of the 50s. Then, Saturday promises to be a beautiful fall day; after a morning low between 36 and 44 we project a high in the mid 60s. The weather stay dry Sunday… the sky will be partly sunny with a high in the upper 60s. Clouds will increase Sunday night.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: A cold front will push a band of showers into the state Monday. Again, moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be fairly light (under 1/4 inch for most places). Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry with cold mornings; looks like temperatures will be in the 25-32 degree range early Tuesday, followed by a high around 50. Then, we reach the mid to upper 50s Wednesday with a good supply of sunshine.

The latest model trends look dry and cool for Thanksgiving Day; some rain is possible by Friday (November 26). See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

It is, I do understand the frustration of a lot of former posters, but I hope there will be an eventual migration back over here. I've met so many cool people through this thread.

There’s a thread going on where a guy experienced some pushback from some mods (I don’t know the whole story) and he was announcing his departure from TW. The thread makes me feel bad because pretty much everyone is just piling on him and I didn’t see where his complaints were ever addressed.
I feel like enough people have been in his position that maybe the “management”should take a look at some of the issues.
I don’t know, TW just feels like a different place than it did not that long ago.

I don’t agree with the way some mods handle stuff. Maybe years of fighting the trolls and idiots of the internet turn you into a jaded, sarcastic ass. I get that. It doesn’t translate well to our southern hospitality.

To be honest, one of the main reasons I became active on TW initially (besides truck stuff) is there was no political talk allowed. If I wanted to talk politics I’d get on Facebook and argue over a picture of a sunset James Spann reposts. When people argue on the internet no one wins. Doubly so for political arguments.

Our country is obsessed with politics. It’s like the new reality show. It’s everywhere and on almost every platform. Everyone seems to have this relentless obsession to share their opinion on matters so far removed from their own lives and experiences. For me, TW was a welcomed reprieve from all that shit.

Anyways, that’s my rant. I’ve met some great people on here who I consider friends. I hope this thread picks back up and we can all shoot the shit and plan some trips and enjoy what brings us all together.
