    I own a 2001 Tacoma Sr5 pre-runner.

I want to buy some new 31x10.50R15 BFGoodrich All Terrains and I want to run them on Mickey Thompsons 15x10 rims. I'm running stock suspension at the moment. My worries are how under powered the truck is, should I be concerned about any internal damage to the gearing or should I be fine with larger tires? Also will the 31s fit on stock suspension? Minimal rubbing is fine with me.

That's a 10% increase in diameter, so your speedometer will be off by 10% also. You aren't going to damage any internal gearing, but it won't accelerate as fast as with the smaller diameter tire. You will want to put those tires on an 8 inch wide wheel though. Otherwise you'll get that silly stretched look, and if you air down you can run the chance of popping off the tire bead. Tires will clear no problem.

    Don't worry about being "underpowered"

31s are pretty much stock size

Hell, should check out a 22R on 40s n tons

265/70/16 is a stock size, which is nominally 31". I have these on my 3rz and the speedo reads high compared to roadside speed signs and gps on my phone. My next set of tires will likely be 265/75/16, which should: 1. look cooler, and 2. ring the speedo closer to reality. If you don't need load range E tires, then you can stay away from those and just stick with passenger tires, which are usually significantly lighter for a given size and tread design.

10%?! Where are you getting that math from?

As others have said, the 265/70r16 is the metric equivalent of a 31", and is the stock size that comes on these trucks. There is effectively no difference.

But not on a 10" rim. Unless you in Hawaii and somewhere in the south I think it's a thing.

That's a good point. I kind of glossed over the fact OP is looking at 10's. 8's are going to be better for a 31x10.50's or 265/70's

Wider tire, you're gonna rub even with a lift.

FWIW this is 3" lift with 31x10.50 on 8" wide rims. I don't know the offset but I suspect it was enough that it would have rubbed the firewall during turns at stock height

I'd say it isn't more than 0 offset.

Why not just buy the correct wheels?

Kind of counter productive to run something not meant for your truck.
