I'm thinking this might be the best option. It's the only one I've been so far that actually has front support

I prefer the All Pro Offroad gas skid as it has a bunch of holes on the bottom to allow water, snow, mud, etc. to escape. Also has a front support.

same :annoyed: happened to my 05 highlander's fuel tank plastic cover also while cruising around 50mph on the freeway in a 4 inch snowfall. ziptied back up and traded it for the taco truck. if anyone knows of any company that makes aluminum skid plates for the fuel tank please let us know. i have seen many aluminum ones but they do not have any drainage holes in them like the steel ones do. i know i could drill my own holes but that would defeat the whole purpose of dropping $$$ on an aluminum skid plate made by a company.

Bizzare. I'm guessing it has to do with the ice as well. I've buried my truck up to the axles in snow many times and never had an issue with the tank skid.

From the pictures he posted, it looks like wet heavy snow. If it was only 4-6 inches as he claims then normal snow on the road would not of done it, but if he hit a berm made by a snow plow while trying to enter a street thats not plowed that berm would be heavy compacted wet snow. Combine that with a turn and the full force of that berm would hit the skid as the gas tank would pass over a area the tires/control arm did not pack down a bit.

Ive seen plenty of cars go through deeper snow just fine, but the second they hit that snow plow berm all plastic parts on the front go bye bye and the car gets high centered.

That lunch tray Toyota is calling a skid plate is a joke. Come to think of it, a plastic lunch tray has more stiffness to it. Toyota should replace this. However, that "skid plate" is a joke. Caliraised makes nice akids, i have a couple. The gas tank skid was the first thing i replaced underneath.
Id just remove it and run without one.
Or buy my old stock skid. You pay shipping and you can have it.

Toyota's way of cutting cost. Replace metal plates with tinfoil.

And this is why I don't live in a place where it snows all the time in the winter :D We like to go to the snow here in the PNW, not let it come to us (because people drive like idiots here).

Also 99% of tacoma owners dont buy a tacoma for heavy offroading that need a gas tank skid. No reason to put on a skid that only 1% need and will probably replace anyhow.

IMO it is more a shield than a skid plate designed to protect tank from road debres. Should have front end support though.
