Finally getting my Tacoma issues resolved

I have a 2007 Tacoma TRDsport double cab with 26,900 miles and have owned it for almost two weeks. Sadly, the rattles are already driving me nuts. My issues are the heater blower motor tick, air intake rattle, large quantities of paint chips on the leading edge of the hood, pass. side rear door switch bad (light doesn't come on when door is open)
These may sound like minor issues to some, but after being told how great the Toyota Certified Preowned program is and how the vehicle was guaranteed to be "like new" I decided not to allow these minor annoyances to linger and ruin my buying experience.
Anyway, after one trip to the dealer and being told by the service rep that the tech couldn't duplicate the intake rattle and his advise was to "drive it and see if it gets worse"
That is the kind of advise I can't accept. I had owned this truck for 3 days and those little rattles are a pain in the ass, and it's embarrasing to take people for a ride in my TRD and all they notice is the rattles.
After nearly a week of phone tag with the service manager, I finally got an appointment to have all issues fixed!!! The parts are on order and will be installed sometime next week.
I have seen a lot of people on here and other sites bitching about the quality of newer Toyotas not being the same as the older models and I have to agree with some of it. I traded in a 1997 4Runner SR5 with 127000 miles on it anf that truck was solid as a rock. Not a single shake, rattle, or unusual noise anywhere. But with the millions of Tacos out there, you will find some that have issues, I understand that and expect it.
My advise to anyone with theses annoyances is to be persistant, keep going up the chain of command until you get someone who has the ability and desire to help you out. A warranty is only as good as the dealership doing the work, if your dealer isn't helpful then find one who is. There are still good dealerships out there who take customer service seriously, you just need to find one.
I'm looking forward to having my Taco go down the road like my old 4Runner did, quietly.

 

My 07 off road was fine for a year then the door / passenger dash and something in the access cab rear started to rattle BAD. The blower ticked like crazy / the windshield seal whistled like a bottle rocket. I took it to the dealer about 7 times. "Sir, we cant find anything wrong with your truck". -- Every time.

Dont care, I loved that truck and should never have traded it for an FJ. The FJ is fine, its just not a tacoma. Hopefully will be trading it in for a DC sport sometime in the near future.

Perhaps you don't care about a $23,000 vehicle having problems but I do! Like every other customer, I want to feel like I got value for my dollar and bunch of issues 3 days after purchase had me a little concerned about long term ownership.This vehicle was advertised and guaranteed to be like new, it wasn't! So now the dealership will make it right. I have the service manager going to bat for me, everything is good, that was the point of my thread in the first place.
I wasn't bashing the dealer or Toyota, just giving my experience and advise to others to keep looking until you find someone willing to help

 

umm, since when is it acceptable for a new-ish truck to sound like a hooker's squeaky bed? truck or not, i expect my shit to sound solid, not like a beat up chevy.

my taco is older than his with more miles and none of the problems he complained about.

+1 man, i had this chirp in my door every time i closed the door and when hitting a bump. most annoying thing ever. i took off the panel and turned out a bolt holding the window frame was loose. could have ended up with a bigger problem if that frame had fallen apart.

 

I guess I wouldn't consider 4 years new-ish. It is also hard to know how a truck with almost 27,000 miles has been driven.

I am glad the OP is having luck having the issues resolved.

Its practically a new truck and you have to say why fix something that going to come back in 2 months wow.....


I bought my truck with 36k miles on it and dont have problems like that if I did I would call everyday until they fixed it (extended warranty) squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I dont like to pay around 20k for a truck that rattles, and makes noises sorry....

 

That was my thought. A four year truck has most likely been utilized a lot differently than a car.

Time to find all the niggles and complaints for any used vehicle is before you drive it off the lot.

 

My truck was an in-dealer transfer and was driven from one lot to another by an employee. He pulled in from his 50 mile trip and I got in for a test drive. Now that I have spent some time on this site, I know that the truck, being at full temp, masked the intake rattle until the next days cold start.
The paint chips were hidden due to road salt and snowy conditions. It wasn't until after I had bought the truck and after it had gone through recon that I noticed the chips on the hood, and I did mention it to my salesman.
As for the rear door switch, I just didn't notice it at 2 pm when I was looking at the truck.

 

Let me guess...was it the dealership who told you how great the Toyota Certified Preowned program was? After reading many complaints about it here I'd be a bit skeptical of any car dealerships used car programs.
Here's my advice...don't count your chickens before they're hatched. They may fix everything but I'd be surprised if that was the case...Good luck though!
I'm not sure how the preowned program works (never bought one.) Do people expect these used preowned vehicals to be in brand new condition? Is there anything in the paperwork that says "as is"?

 

With ya OP, little shit bug me too...I've learned to try and fix the shit myself. Hopefully this tacoma goes well over 100k with minimal issues..and if Toyota doesn't offer something similiar to the Eco boost Ford V6 - that is my next ride. But the flavor of the week changes and overall I feel safe in my investment, like you should

 

I'm gonna go with..........At least you have less than 36k on it and the dealer will have to address TSBs and warranty issues. Mine was 48k certified preowned 05 and while it didn't have rattling issues and blower motor ticking, it did have issues I consider silly for it to have been a certified preowned dealer vehicle. None of them get any coverage that are not drivetrain related due to it being past 36k miles. They have indeed had to cover drivetrain issues like every seal on the truck. I did check shit over and did shakedown test rides but you won't find all the little obscure things while on the lot. I will simply say they have covered my drivetrain issues but still have not got timing cover to not leak after 3 tries...yet. I consider finding autolite plugs that weren't iridium as spec'd for 05 4 cyl in it and at least 1/4 inch shorter than what is supposed to be there, an autolite bs oil filter & an empty cabin filter box lame and way short of being a "certified Preowned" vehicle that should have had toyota parts put in it. But it was a used vehicle and I took on having it instead of paying full price for new one so my bad on not taking all day at the dealership taking shit apart and microexamining the whole truck before purchasing. Doesn't mean the lameness on the dealer's part to sell as close to new as possible is any less bullshit but it is buyer beware so good luck with yours is all I can say to OP.........other than go get your 4 leaf packs and TRD shocks with alignment all for free on their nickle before you pass 36k and hound the fuck out of them for any legit reason you can.
