Yeah, but i've seen 5.3 chevy's at my buddies garage in for an oil change that are only a few years old with the oil looking real dark that were a lot newer than my tundra was.

5.3 Vortec's were made in both iron and aluminum blocks so who knows.

Its every 10k, you get a free tire rotation every 5k, which theres a good chance they take it back for an hr and bring it right back un-rotated.

Moly is definitely used during assembly but is it used in such large quantities to show 700+ ppm? I mean a can of 300ml of MoS2 shows only 200+ppm on the report.

    Interesting point.

I wonder what the percentage of actual moly in MoS2? I suppose assembly lube could be higher percentage.

-I just ran the MSDS, LiquidMoly is 0.5-1.5% Moly. I could not find a percentage on assembly paste in a few minutes of searching.

Been changing oil for more than fifty years. Use to work in Mobil's Blending and Packing Unit where Mobil1 is made, and where many other manufacturers have their oils, both dino and syn, blended and private labelled for them by Mobil B&P. I sat through MANY oil additive company's presentations. Here is what the additive reps told me: It's all about the surfacting detergent effect on the hydrocarbon deposits, and HOW MUCH of that liberated hydrocarbon can be suspended in the oil. Continuing, most oils start to lose their ability to effectively suspend hydrocarbon at about 5000 miles, with diminishing ability from there. So, change dino at 3K, syn at 5K and you will never have oil-related problems. End of story. Sure you guys that are going to sell at 150K, you go ahead and stretch it to 10K, but I have a '93 T4R outside under the awning with 413,000 on it. Also out there is a '97 Chevy C1500 with an "old school" Vortec 350 in it with 293,000 on the odometer. Sold two Chevy Novas (Toyota-made Corollas badged as Chevy Novas back in the 80's), one with 193,000, the other with 184,000. All still are good, dependable vehicles. I like my fifty year old system.

I never remember B&P ever doing a run of "break-in" oil for anybody.

Just purchased a can from Amazon. Thank you for the recommendation.

Luckily I’ve only driven for 10 minutes after the oil change.

FYI you can make them do it, but they will just skip your scheduled maintenance one trip ahead. I made them do this so that my first change became 5k, then second was 15k instead of keeping it at 10. Also, fuck the dealer, do that shit yourself.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I did my break-in oil change at a few over 1k. The filter looked about the same as the OP. Didn't bother to do a UOA because I think we all know what that would look like. I just did my 5k on Saturday and sent the oil in to Blackstone. I think that will be a better baseline of wear for the next 20 years of service. I intend on changing mine earlier, at 5k intervals because those milestones are easy to track along with all the other maintenance requirements. I'll likely let Toyota do the next one at 10k just so they can go through the vehicle checklist for record of my extended warranty purposes. I've got the Platinum 10yr/125k Toyota VSP.

My first oil change will be at 12K as my mechanic as said to me 8k is a little too soon for a synthetic oil change and should wait till at least 12k. Is he right .

I think it all depends on what you are going to do.
    1. If you trade your vehicle every 5 years you don’t need to do a single change.
    2. If you are going to keep it for 100,000 miles do it every 15,000 and forget about it.
    3. If you plan on keeping the truck for 200k miles or more I’d change it every 5,000 miles. Even if you estimate a change at $80 each you will execute an extra 20 changes which equates to $1,600 OVER 10 or 20 years. Why nickel and dime yourself? Just play the safer route and change it.

Oil is the life blood of your engine. Do you not drain your own blood on a weekly basis and run it through a heppa filter to remove the toxins the government is poisoning us with through the chemtrails? Yeah, I thought so. Your truck deserves that same level of care.

    Good day sir.

If this is your first change you should bring it tot he dealer at 10k and be done with it.

    it’s free

and now your dealer has service records if anything goes wrong

TGMO has very high moly content, available at any Toyota dealership.

For me the argument for an early change is any metal shavings from a new motor and new parts. The idea is to get that stuff out of circulation quickly. I did mine at 5k for that reason.

I think the guy you're quoting is from Canada (Ontario).. he may be using km, not miles. 16k km is about 10k miles.

Using petro derived oil is SOOO PASSE. I use only 100% Gluten Free Non GMO free range Kale oil. Its really the only environmentally conscious choice.

Yep. I put about 10k a year on my Taco, so I never reach the 16k, as I change my oil once a year.

So, technically I do my oil changes early.......:D

That’s what your filter is for. If those shavings didn’t do any damage from 0 - 5k they’re not going to hurt anything from 6-10. But if doing it at 5k makes you feel good have at it. I spend way more than that at a bar without a second thought. :anonymous:
