Winter Taco Mods

Well it’s getting colder, school is getting harder, and gas is getting more expensive, so i figured it was time to remove the bed rack, clean up the truck, and organize my shed with all my box’s contents. Got some veg board and an accessory kit and fitted the walls of my shed into the ultimate grab and go storage wall.

 

I also get a lot of questions about why i don’t use cast iron…

1. it’s harder to keep rust free in my environment
2. it’s easier to use a cheap, lighter non-stick pan
3. i still use a cast iron skillet as a grill sometimes, but that might change this winter with my new propane grill

 

Ummmm.....

No modifications needed.

If school is hard, then suggest to study more and less focus on the shed and truck. School will build your future.

You can do nothing about the temperature or gas price.

My truck gets more wind resistant in the winter because I put my soft topper up to keep the snow out... I get a whole 12-13 mpg most of the winter and I hate it... Ive thought of buying a cheap corolla or something to drive in the non-snow days.

My winter prep goes like this:

Put on winter tire.
Put snow brush in the truck

 

This reminds me I need to go into the attic and my brush out.

 

Lol I moved to SC. I need to do nothing.

 

I wouldn't leave the firearms in a shed. That's just me. How ever snow tires, snow brush , winter hat, gloves and fill washer fluid tank with lower rated fluid -40.

 

I live in New Hampshire. We have 9 months of good skiing and 3 months of lousy sledding.

My sole mod is tossing in the snow brush/ scraper.

When roads get slippery in the A.M. I put my thick modded horse mat in the bed . I have a winch so I'm good

 

although they are gun gases, i only use them to store my camping stuff in the rack, the guns are in the safe where they belong lol

 

I just got done sanding and repainting my rock sliders and hitch receiver as well as a chip on the hood and in the door. I also put on the winter tires. Still need to toss a scraper into the cab.

After a couple years of touching up my paint, I think this makes more sense than coating my truck with goo that attracts all sorts of crap.

 

First winter with my Tacoma (first pickup). Any suggestions to keep my tailgate from freezing? I driver it all out but we tend to get plenty of wet with our snow/sleet here in Vermont and there have been 2 mornings already where I couldn't open it.

I have the soft tonneau cover so I can't grab it beyond pulling the handle and I'm leery of breaking anything.

 

Ive never had a tailgate freeze so hard that a good yank could not get it open, but anyway I don’t think you can prevent that short of parking it inside or putting a tarp on it. To free it, park it in the sun or pour some warm water on it.

 

The tailgate is just freezing to your cover, make sure the seal between the tailgate and the cover is dry when you close it for the night. My soft top does this too, so every once in awhile I have to give the top a few hits of deicer to get it free.

 

Thanks, guys, I'll try that next time. I'm sure if I could just grab the top of the tailgate it would be no issue, but the cover prevents that and I've been cautious about yanking the tailgate flap handle in these situations.
