Some Falken Wildpeak M/T for 600. Days they have 25K miles so might not be a great/good deal. 285/70/17- 51B5BE19-B959-4277-944F-5EB0942D8223.jpg

I was just looking at the duratracs on my 4runner today. Don't look bad considering the mileage and age.

Wanted to take a second and give @68dave a special shoutout for letting me come up to his place for a few days for a MUCH needed mental reset. He has a true slice of paradise up here (with a side of coyotes) and for him to be willing to share that with (most) of us truly speaks for how good of a friend he is.

Putting 235/85/16 Cooper St Maxx's on tomorrow. I have 6550 miles on the stock SR5 car tires...Firestone Destination Le2's. No patches or plugs. Perfect condition. I am going to list them on FB marketplace but wanted to see if anyone on here wanted to buy them first. They would be good for your wife's/daughters small/midsize SUV. They are over $600 new I will take $250 from a TW member. Tires only, no rims. Local pickup in Forest Hill, Harford County or at my office in Joppa.

I run a similar sized version of that tire so I believe you are going to like them very much.

Thanks! Any idea of a starting point for PSI? I posted under the wheel/tire forum asking but didnt get a response. I am willing to do the chalk method but I would like to have a rough idea of where to start.

Just a shot in the dark but 31-34psi. I’ve got the 255/85/16 and run 31-32. It was recommended that I run at 40 when I got them but it felt way too stiff and like I was driving a boat. I’ve still not done the chalk test… it does not appear the tires are wearing odd though

Well, short story, 36 psi back - 37 psi in the front (to compensate for the weight of the engine).

Long story, a while back in a thread over there a guy posted a formula to figure it out. Something about the weight of the vehicle, with gear and people, divided by the tires capacity or something like that. The end result was 37 psi. With that said, if you do a search online "formula to calculate tire pressure", about a gazillion hits come up. The most prevalent one is the 10% rule. Simply put, you take 10% of the max tire psi (80) which is 8, and subtract that from the max?!!! 72 psi seems a little like overkill to me. So I throw that BS out the window. There are as many threads on forums about this subject as there are different tires.

    Look here: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/how-to-calculate-street-pressure-for-larger-tires.169273/

There are only 7 or 8 methods in the first page of posts alone.

I recently rotated mine, and since I do a 5 tire rotation, I have to reprogram the stupid TPMS each time. I would like to believe that my kinda expensive Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 program tool is the most accurate tool I have. The other two being a very very cheap stick style old school pressure gauge, and a little more professional non-digital dial type. So, because I am anal AF I check myself. The dial was 2 psi higher and the stick 2 psi lower. So, I just like to set the display on the dash to show me psi and that way I can kind of get an idea how close I am. I know if the scan tool I use writes info to the ECU during the process it's gonna input what it reads and therefore the readings on the dash match. So I roll with it.

I have to ask though, because this is important, the psi is when the tires are cold is considerably lower than after an hour drive up I-95 from the city to home. I am seeing a 5 psi increase (yesterday). 42 psi was the result after an hour and even that seems like a lot to me. At slower speeds I can pretty much feel BB's if I go over one. Since I run E range, 42 is only half of what they can handle but jeeze. Your results may vary with your driving type but I am rolling as fast and hard as I can to get home to my family.

So I have to wonder, do we fill to adjust for that? Or do we say screw it? These tires are too damn expensive not to care about premature wear. I do rotate them regularly, and like I said, it is 5, but damn, I want to be as sure as possible.

I have not done it yet but I keep saying I am going to do the chalk test. Apparently that is really the only way to tell. Right? Or is it? Play along with me. If you apply the chalk and in a parking lot, travel say 40 yards, or just 4 feet, the tire is not really deforming like it does at 80 mph, or am I completely off base here? I mean, I can't image any tire not deforming with a rise in temps at those speeds.

I hate the guess work so like I keep saying, I am gonna chalk test mine as soon as I can get some chalk.

Valid points. I too am a little bit anal and I carry a Bluepoint (made by SnapOn) guage that is supposed to be very accurate. I also noticed the change in pressure while driving. I have left my house in Forest Hill at 32psi and arrive at my office in Joppa (15 mile drive on 152 between 40-60mph) and get to 37 psi. Thanks for your input. I am going to start at 37/36 and see how it feels. I agree with your chalk line questions. I have the same concerns. Do I need to have my sensors replaced or just reprogrammed?

The sensors should not have be an issue if you are keeping the same wheels. I went with eBay tmps and regret it lol. They used to work but they no longer show the psi and no matter how many times I follow the reset process matters.

I agree, we should plan some type of get together.
