Looking to save a few bucks on mods for the Lunar Rock that is on order. The used MGM I am currently driving has the tailgate lock. Anybody ever remove this before? I'm assuming you'd just reverse the install instructions? Also how can I tell the difference between the pop n' lock and the OEM version?

The OEM version has a plug n play harness that plugs in behind the kick panel on the front passenger side with the door locks. I don't believe Pop n Lock plugs in like that.

There's a bunch of videos on YouTube on how to install. You'll be able to see where the harness plugs in and how the cable makes it's way under the truck.

You'll end up removing a floor drain plug. You'll need to replace it with a new one. Don't leave it out and trade it in. That would be beyond shitty for the next guy.

If it is the factory lock, do you want to get rid of it. I would be interested...

Good call. I already plugged up the holes in the bed from the drains on the Bakflip. Definitely taking that too

It would be coming off the '20 MGM to go on my '22 Lunar Rock. After spending a mere 3k on upgrades (I know, rookie numbers) I figured I could save a few bucks here and there

You might consider going with the OEM version on your new truck. It's plug n play with no splicing. I know you were trying to save a few bucks but it's not that expensive of a part ($128.52 at BAM Wholesale for the short bed version). You could even have the dealer install it before delivery if you want one less thing to worry about doing yourself.

FYI dealer quoted me 2hrs labor + full cost for the part when I asked about installing one on my ‘21.

Only took me about 45 minutes to do myself. Slowest part is taking off the tailgate cover and putting it back on.

I had the dealer install mine because I didn't want to be sliding my fat self under the truck to run the cable. They charged me 1.5 hours and I paid it happily....well, not necessarily happily but I was happy not to have to run the cable myself :)

Yeah bought the OEM one about an hour after figuring out it’s a pop n lock. I’ll end up doing the install myself though. I like having projects in the garage to do

I installed a pop n lock this week. It had a t harness that required no splicing.

While you're back at the tail end of the truck why not get the OEM bed lights and knock those off at the same time? (I'm great at spending other people's money :))

Really? Where does it plug into? I thought only the OEM version had the plug-in harness.

EDIT: is this what you installed? https://www.amazon.com/POP-LOCK-Tailgate-2016-2021-2007-2021/dp/B00LST3022

Do the new 22s not have the tailgate lock installed from the factory? Or it's just an optional addition?

Following. An auto locking tailgate was an option I regret not adding. Seems like a good project to do myself though
