When it comes down to it, it's a piece of electronics. And they fail. Always have a back-up plan.

And I believe it was SOP to have a COTS back-up when using the old military GPS units.

True, and did twice over. My G at the time was the winner in that one.

I’ve got one of those! Have had it for 15 years. I still use it every year to mark hunting spots in the NF.

    Right on!
Nice! While still useable, Garmin stopped with the support for it years ago.

Well... initially I was looking at the 6112/5160 but after talking to Bilstein and another supplier, they have recommended the 4600. I am not looking to lift my truck right now specifically, though not against it, but to get a better ride. Majority of driving is city/highway, my offroading is fireroads and the beach. Beach can at times be big ruts and fast driving, other times just cruising over rutted out tracks. Stock ride is squishy and slow bumps suck. I want something that rides more performance but not like riding a hardtail Harley.

Haven't been tracking on the supply of stuff, but I remember bilsteins were sold out for a bit earlier this year. I have dobinson's basic nitro shocks which I like, so thats another option in similar price range. They're also linearly valved vs the Bilstein's are digressive. Don't have enough experience with either to really comment on differences in valving, other than the stuff I've read, but could be something to consider as well.

If you were looking to lift at some point, I would go with your initial choice. Why spend the money twice?

the front is essentially the same and they make tacoma specific stuff

edit: The dobinsons part numbers for front shocks and coils are the same for 4runners and tacomas

    What Dave said...

Plus, aren't the 4600s what comes stock on the 3rd Gen OR anyway?

Edit: only to add that you might consider finding some TRD Pro take-offs with low mileage...I'm running those and they are fantastic!

Shoot, well do you want to take Betty white off of my hands then for free? You’d be doing me a favor seeing as she has 218k miles.
