I was taught by real world experience that the word assume means nothing but to make an ass of u and me.

    YMMV

Ok, let me rephrase. If they are installed correctly and well built, they are safe.

I know what my lugs are torqued to.

Why would a spacer be more prone to coming loose than a wheel?

If spacers were as dangerous as you are implying, I don't think they would still be sold.

I am with you. Never, ever, again.

    # 2 son recently asked, "Why does the experience I get seem to cost so much money."

    He didn't listen, either.

With companies like Spidertrax and AllPro, who probably sell thousands and thousands of spacers per year, do you not think they would be facing some serious repercussions over the liability they have to their products? Or can you explain why a spacer is more likely to come loose or shear studs than a low offset wheel?

I know were not going to change each others mind on the matter, and I don't care so much to waste more time with this, so we can agree to disagree.

    Good day.

Wronge! I had a incident in the dunes, and the only thing that survived was the spacers...

Drinking and driving is illegal. Spacers are not.

Please don't call me a kid or try to make this personal. It's quite obvious you cannot make a good argument.

Nascar driver Robby Gordon is a perennial competitor in and past winner of the Dakar Rally. He is sponsored by General Motors and has the finest equipment money can buy.

He failed to qualify for the Rally last week because a SPACER broke during the qualifying run and the resulting damage was so extensive they were unable to repair the suspension damage the broken spacer caused even with factory mechanics in the five hours that they were alloted for repairs.

Its one thing to take a chance in competition when you are the only one in the vehicle. It seems exceedingly stupid to me to take that same chance on the open road with loved ones in the vehicle.

I run spacers on the rear of my truck and it has been fine for the past 3 years including offroad trips. Just make sure its torqued down well and add loctite and you are good to go.

As a physics major I have to agree with jdcpa and tiotaco. Here is an experiment you can feel and understand why it will eventually break and why they come lose. Take a bench press bar and stick a 5 or 10 lb weight on the one end. Start with your hands at the opposite end on the weight, tilt the weight up and down with your wrists only. That is the equivalent to what your bearings and lugs must support, this should be difficult to do, move your hands now as close to the weights as possible and do it again, easy right? Now just imagine your lugs and bearings having to compensate for the torque at a greater distance away from it's support. It will cause added strain, every one has testified on here that the lugs must constantly be checked, that being said something must be wrong with them.

The 5-lug Tacoma has a larger centerbore than Toyota cars and Jeeps, which makes sourcing spacers difficult.

However, it has the same 5/114.3 lug pattern, 67.1 mm centerbore and 12x1.5 mm stud size as Mazda. H&R (the spring company) makes TRAK+ spacers for Fords and Mazdas, with the hub-centric shoulder. PN is 4065671 for 20 mm thick or 5065671 for 25 mm thick. For details, got to http://www.trakplus.com/application and look at the fit list for a recent-year Mazda3 or Ford Escape. Pretty sure they will fit without issue, because someone here runs RX-8 wheels on a 5-lug Taco without modification.

Note: if the OEM stud protrudes past the spacer, make sure the wheel mounting face has a cavity that can accommodate it.

Its interesting you talk about heating things up and cooling them down to get them to fit. Some manufacturers cool parts down with liquid nitrogen to install them and they are completely locked in when they return to room temperature. Ferrari does this with the roller bearings for the valves in its V-8 engines.

Sometimes us old farts want to act like we know it all and sometimes we just want to save your life. I'd be checking the lug nuts very carefully if I were you.

ok i lock tighted them and torqued them down a little tight. but now my tires rub like no other.:frusty: so i took my fenders off and ordered flares.. but they still rub a tiny bit on one side. i cant turn all the way left... now i gotta use a plasma cutter and fix that. anyways im still nervous over this. any one else have any opinions?
