FCA products have best image quality backup cams out there from mainstream brands. If FCA can manage to outdo luxury brands in backup cam image quality, I think it's not too much to ask for Toyota not the have one of the worst cams in the business. I think maybe only Mazda has worse ones.

Yeah, it does a LOT of things, which is kinda why YOU CANNOT CLAIM THATS WHAT CAUSES IT. Pretty simple idea that you don’t seem to get.

sounds like you need to go back to dinner. Try green next, sounds like you need your veggies

sweetheart, if you knew what the fuck you were talking about you wouldn’t have tried so hard to use bluster and condescending attitudes to cover the conversation. You still have not said shit other then blah blah head unit, blah blah complicated, blah blah you don’t understand. People who know what the fuck they are talking about don’t have to try so fucking hard claiming they know what they are talking about.

    go back to your crayons

Back to reality…. Does anybody know of a better camera if we want to keep the stock head units? Or if the screen is the issue, a camera+head unit combo that works better? Any of the Apple CarPlay radios have better resolution?

I think the Snowflake(s) are the Karen who claimed (though I doubt that they actually did) file three complaints with the State over this 'Safety Issue'

Act like me? You mean like someone who posses the skill and ability to drive backwards without the use of a camera? Anytime you want a lesson feel free to reach-out sweetheart :burnrubber:

look at you whine, but yeah it’s others who are the snowflakes.

only a dipshit doesn’t use the tools available to him. But apparently turning your head and mirrors can look through the metal tailgate. Oh wait, hack who thinks all he needs is a hammer not the craftsman who uses the tools he has.

try breathing through your nose for a while, it may help. But congrats at being the exact same person as those who shit on your bed stiffener thread.

a couple people have rigged up different cameras. I have also seen a few saying the front camera from their Anytime camera kit was better, which gives indications of the ability to put in a better camera. See the thread talking about a second camera for a swing out tire carrier for some wiring diagrams

as far as cameras go they are really old technology. It’s analog not digital using ntsc to transmit the feed, as a result the “resolution” is capped. However the cameras (sensors) themselves can use higher quality and the on-board conversion to ntsc can be cleaner. I have wanted to try drone FPV cameras on this as they appear to be some of the highest quality but unfortunately mine is canbus so I cannot just plug and play like the older trucks. The downside to the drone cameras are that they are not waterproof and you also likely have to change lenses to get the same fov

Well mine is in the mirror the size of a postage stamp, I'm thinking of telling Toyota is dangerous and they need to give me a head unit. I do how ever manage not to back into things and can hook up to trailers OK.

Wow, you're really upset by the fact that there are people who can (gasp!) drive backwards without the use of technology!

Again (since you don't seem keen to paying attention to details) my DD is a Ford F-550 Bucket Truck. No back-up camera, no rearview mirror, just a pair of side-view mirrors which are bigger than your ego which every day I drive backwards into a slot 2.5' wider than the truck is next to my garage. Does it take skill? Oh yeah. Is that something most people lack? Oh heck yeah. Can I back my Taco into that same space? Literally with my eyes closed.

It's not a matter of being able to see through metal, it's more a matter of taking a quick walk around your vehicle before you drive it to know what's behind it. Pretty common practice for Commercial Drivers. Hard concept for some, but seems to work pretty well for the rest of us. But please, continue thinking we, the people who can back-up without hitting things/people/pets/trees/ posses magical powers that allow us to see through solid objects. :bananadance:

This is fun! Keep it up, just don't get offended if I don't reply as quickly as you. I have to go use some tools you likely never knew existed to make the lights stay on

can you even read? Who the hell in here said they "couldnt" backup without their backup camera?

You must really believe that. That's why you commented isn't it. You cannot think beyond your own nose and felt these folks were so disrupted by poor backup camera quality that they were unable to move their vehicle backwards without it. Literally nobody here has said that, but sure, make up that story in your head. Or they are not a fricking idiot and realize that between the time they walk around a vehicle people, pets, and other crap can happen and so having something to add to the mirrors helps fill in blind spots. Or maybe the backup in busy parking lots, or have 30-40 feet to backup, or use their truck around things that, IDK, fricking MOVE.

Or do you take some weird pride because you chose to only use mirrors. Great, you only use your mirrors, how special for you, talk about worthless accomplishments in life, being able to use your mirrors like every other person here. I mean, look at this story about all the difficulties you overcome backing up this F-550 and how great you are for it. The rest of us are going to use what we have available, but you, you are better because you ONLY use your mirrors, you somehow feel superior. You sure as hell try and come across like you are better then others because you 'don't need this backup camera', if such as small accomplishment in life is what you feel puts you above others then it probably explains why you have to go shit on anything others are interested in...

fricking people who have such minor things to feel accomplished about that they have to use those to try and shit on others. But go ahead and go shit in the other backup camera threads so can feel special by telling us how you can back up a vehicle using mirrors...

Ah, Snoman002 thinks I’m special! My day is made :kona:

I can also back my trailers into that same spot. Would you prefer a life-size cardboard cut-out of me or will a Poster suffice for your adoration? Ask nicely and I may even sign it for you :poking:

Maybe I ought to start my own YT channel. People could watch videos of me driving backwards. I could see people breathlessly discussing the video where I backed my car trailer into it’s spot behind my garage while my neighbors cat was sitting on it (Skampers likes doing that. Won’t go near it when it’s parked). Or the one where I didn’t drive my VW over a bucket which was behind it because I walked around the car before I backed it out of my garage.

My neighbor could start a related channel where she shows how good her kids are at staying away from vehicles which are moving. This could be a whole new revenue stream for me! All thanks to Snoman002! :drunk:

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks to the community for all the info so far.

Just took delivery of a 2022 TRD Off Road with the advanced tech package and, like other posters, am pretty surprised by how blurry the backup camera is, even after trying to adjust the contract. Have a 2019 as well and the camera is better in that one.

Sounds like there is not a conclusion around whether the quality is consistent across trucks or if some are better/worse...will try to take it in so they can give their perspective but, in the event it's as good as it'll get from the factory, does anyone know of a higher quality camera you could swap in?

Fully recognize any camera is helpful, but this really really feels far behind from a tech perspective.

There seems to be a consensus that the 2020+ cameras are worse then the prior years, I have not seen it specifically identified as to if that is all 2020+ or only those with the 360 camera package. I do know that those with the 360 camera package do have a lower quality image.

There is, at this time, NOT a camera you can swap in. The Advance Tech cameras communicate the video signal AND something on the vehicle communication bus. I am currently attempting to bypass the canbus by letting the factory camera feed the bus and an alternate camera feed the video. I have yet to have that work but it is very likely a setup issue on my end. Bottom line there is no "plug and play" camera upgrade.
