The sun has cooked the clear coat on the top of my truck (hood and top), but the sides still look great for a 2008. The hood also had the little rock chip dings found on every Toyota truck with a few miles on them. If you're removing the paint down to bare metal, don't think there's much if any additional work required. Just have to treat any rust spots on the hood before primer and paint.

Any idea how much this will run at a dealer's body shop? Would like to have it fixed correctly.

    TIA!

Did you leave out a zero? I expect a much higher price...something around $2K.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I'll do it for $200-$400. Any color you want...as long as it's red. Standard Rustoleum. Krylon for an extra C-note.

I had my roof done a couple of months ago for $1100. MAACO was $600 and a couple of other quotes in between. The hood may be less though. Good luck.

Same problem. Want to do something but money tight. Trucks in great shape except for that. Wife's cousin has body shop just embarrassed to ask for a good deal.

$2k at shop that has a warranty for hood and roof was my quote. They want to pull the bed back to paint the roof around the rear of the cab normally.
Maaco much cheaper. Look above your doors as they will be in same condition so have to wrap down roof to door openings. Look near your door window bottoms as they go too. Now the fender flares are starting to fade also on my 2009. I painted the hood and roof spray can and never again. If you do it yourself buy a low cost spray gun and surface prep before takes a lot of time or will not look too good. About 3 coats paint and 3 clear after a prime with compatible paint. Ask cousin and save yourself. Ask about a full paint job also or you will see other areas soon. Hear about $5k so.......

If you just want the hood, it can be cheap. This is how I would do it, depending on color and condition of the rest of the paint. If the truck is black it is easy. I would make an appointment with the shop, Go by and drop off the hood. Don’t leave the truck. Less chance they get trash and dust inside it and overspray on vehicle.

Costs. Depending on your area let’s say labor is 50$/hour. paint 50$/hr. paint and materials 36/hour.

If they take the hood off and on R&I hood 1.2 hours x $50= $60
They strip hood and repair chips, fill, etc. Body work. Est 5 hours x $50 = $250
    The paint for outside hood 3.2 plus 1.2 clear if I remember for total 4.4 x 50 = $220
    Paint and materials 10.6 hours x $36 = 381.60

Total before tax 911.60. (I was a bit off on guess) Maaco would be cheaper but watch quality depending on which one you go to. If you have a faded color you may get into blending fender for color match, then you are into the 2k’s

Wow I can't believe it costs that much for hood. All I want is for it to look decent not a show truck. I'll try maaco and see what they want. I'm driving this truck till the wheels.fall off just want it to not look like a ghetto car

I should ask for the "cash price," and not the "insurance price"...lol

Yeah I would expect somewhere in the $500-$700 range. Would probably be better off getting a AM one.

Get a quote from a paint shop and don’t listen to “Mastiffsrule.” It clearly doesn’t know what it’s talking about.

I just did my whole truck last month! I thought about just doing the hood and top but the fender and door tops were going as well and would have looked pretty obvious and I wanted it look new so I splurged. I also added complete rubber and plastic replacement, reupholstered the front seats, changed out the grill, head and tail lights. Given how much I have $pent which was quite a bit, it was a far cry from overpaying for a new or newer Tacoma.

I've had my rig from mile 0 and have done all maintenance religiously! I figure I'm going to be driving it for at least another 100k and for me that's how i justified the expense.

You’re right, 25 years of writing estimates for body shops and insurance companies. What’s your background, you stay at a holiday in last night?

Just the 2K paint (prime, color, clear) will be about $400. Then you have labor to prep, paint. Oven cure time costs.....

$2000 is a good start point.

If you have a garage, watch some YT videos and got to HF and buy a spray gun. I'd do it myself, and have, if you are on a tight budget.

$200-$400 dollars? Get a grip fella. You clearly sucked at your job.

Edit: It cost more than that 25 years ago …… you been out of the house lately?

You should have scrolled down to my real post where I laid out the real pricing.

You probably didn’t have time to read the whole thread though since you were checking your phone while flipping burgers. It’s cool. Everyone needs to be an expert in something. Maybe you get promoted to fry station one day. :bananadead:
