    Afternoon all:
Building is looking good Travlr!

IT'S OVER! 7 weeks of archery hunting and my buddy didn't even get a chance at a buck, 10 days and back at it with a rifle. WE HAVE A PLAN , I saw a nice buck in an area where there are a lot of deer trails converging and we have seen plenty of tracks in the snow when FL hunting, we are going to put a tree stand in there because you can't cover enough area from the ground, then stash the deer buggy so we don't have to take it in and out 2 miles every time.
I can't even hunt there, but I need to be close to my buddy to help him if he gets one, I will be dressed warm to stay comfy and will strip down and secure the heavy stuff on the buggy on top of the deer if we need to bring a buck out of there. :fingerscrossed:

:pccoffee:  Nice garage-in-progress @Travlr glad those trusses made it up!

I once knew a man who sold "American made" manholes by grinding off the "Made in India" lettering.

Anyone have any insights on @Devious6 ? He's been AWOL for a while.

I have a 2018 TRD Pro tire with about 40,000 miles. What do most of you get on the OEM tires?

I’ve asked about Ken a couple times. Haven’t seen anything from him for months. He started this thread and was posting daily. Where you is Ken? Haven’t seen Devious 6 either but it’s only been a little over a week, wouldn’t worry yet. Use to hear from Mtn Altitude too but it’s probably been 6 or more months.
At our ages got to be a little concerned when someone suddenly stops posting.
JEEPNIK is gone but I see he got permanently banned. Not surprisingly, he seemed to have a bad attitude about everything.

    Morning all:
Mark, Ken, Sue, and Rob all haven't posted in awhile, as well as some others who came and went on here. Often wonder if some of them just got bored with us or if something happened to them.

Darn, up too early this morning after getting up at 4:00 AM every morning to hunt!

Electric dropped out early yesterday morning, several small pockets of outage according to the map. Not good with winter pending. I always think, well maybe it was a weak link, and now they've fixed it. Generator did it's thing. Fired up the fireplace yesterday. The wood blocks made a nice hot fire on a cold morning, always provides a sense of well being. We enjoy it, makes wife's arthritis feel a bit better. Looks like a decent day today, I'll blow out the rain gutters and clean up the deck and driveway, maybe last time this year? Probably not, haha.
We're going to daughter's for turkey day, couple hours drive. It's a pleasant drive, otherwise we probably wouldn't go. People are nuts on the road these days. Covid's got 'em all screwed up. Have a good Thanksgiving, all.

Saturday morning coffee in bed, I love that. Closing on a refi of my house today, timing is right with interest rates being so low, saves me a lot of money in interest. Then it'll be fall leaf clean up again, winding down on that. Then I need to work on the outside catshelter.

Hope you get a nice buck during the next season Carl.

Sometimes life gets pretty busy and the next thing you know 6 months has gone by. Could be why some of the regular posters are not posting.

Cold here today, 25 this morning in the back yard. I need to remove some leaves from the pond netting today and finish the laundry. Basically a low key day. Wife and son are off to another concert tonight but I will be able to make them dinner. Shopping for Thanksgiving went well yesterday, all I need now is milk.

my wife often tells me to get a life, what with my face buried in my phone so much.
It’s true. Being retired, and being physically unable to do many of the things that previously kept me busy and engaged, I haunt my phone for messages that will get me moving again.
I think I told you that I’m a landlord, so this is a legitimate reason to stay connected to my phone.
You’re right, speaking for myself anyway, I don’t post nor read about the everyday stuff here, but do enjoy some of the elevated conversations that come up.
i see that certain others are reluctant to opine, which is legitimate for them in their circumstances, but for me, I never back away from telling the world how I feel about things, and in fact believe that to not do so would be akin to lying.
So there you have it, I don’t identify with the cracker barrel as much as others here, but do appreciate the opinions of those that do, my way of staying connected to the world.

I love that... and agree that keeping one's opinions to one's self can be akin to lying. Sometimes I wonder if the idea that wise people keep their mouths shut has been taken to an extreme and this is one of the reasons there is so little reason in the world today. There is a war going on between wisdom and experience, and those that would disrespect it.

But "identify with the cracker barrel"??? What does that mean?

I've got a 2019 Sport with Toyo tires and only about 21,000 miles. They look to me like they are wearing faster than I'd hope. So I guess I have the same question. How many miles are folks getting on their OEM tires? Does it vary by brand? Certainly by usage I'd assume. Mine are pretty light duty and I try to keep inflation at recommended levels based on the TPM readings.

The Cracker Barrel refers to the porch you guys sit on with the cooler and such. From rural America, the town hardware store, all the old geezers sitting around the big old potbelly stove, commenting on life as it passes by, the pickle barrel with a checker board on top, Cracker Barrel with a chess board.

When I was 8 through 10 we lived in Tennessee. There was a very old general store on a country road that was still in business. They probably sold a whole lot of not much, but the old people owning the store just needed something to do. My mom would make a point to stop and shop there. There were two benches out front on either side of the doors. One was occupied by old white men in well worn overalls... the other side by old black men in well worn overalls. Neither side took baths very often. But the stories they told to young kids... It didn't matter which side you went to, the stories were great and there was always a knee to sit on. Corn cob pipes and a lot of laughing. One of my most valued memories.

ive never lived in the South, and until the 60’s had thought that the racial strife had long been settled. Even fairly recently, having travelled in the South briefly, I was amazed at how racial issues were so close to the surface in everyday life. Your country store segregated benches story adds another dimension to my limited experience in that area. I do vividly remember the self segregating groups while in the Navy, but have never experienced institutionalized segregation.

Yeah, in those days the signs were still up, the segregated bathrooms and water fountains, and the cross burnings and lynchings still happened. Strange fruit. I remember when those social workers disappeared. But the discovery of moonshine stills made more news locally. It's kind of funny, but I don't remember ever wondering why there were all these black kids in their black neighborhoods... and yet there weren't any black faces in my classrooms. The things that go over your head as a kid...

I have only two memories of blacks while in grammar school. One was the rag picker just after WWII, his large horse-drawn wagon, collecting everything from old clothes to bacon fat during the early postwar years. The other memory was of a schoolmate, a girl who I thought was ostracized because of her developing early. I befriended her, but her family moved soon after. Then came Junior High, another story altogether.

As for a comment on tire wear, I already replaced tires on my 2018 TRD Sport which right now has 27,347 mi. on it. They weren't totally worn out but the tread was getting low and I wasn't going to chance running them thru the winter. I liked the tires, but wasn't going to replace them with the same tires that I doubt would have lasted 30k miles.
