Was at an auto mall today and took a walk around while my van was serviced. Ran across some ridiculously priced used Tacomas. This is an 18 SR5 with 8000 miles

They had a few new Tacomas. One was a CC 4wd TRD Sport for about $3000 more than the 18 SR5. Is this everywhere or just this dealer?
For what it's worth this Toyota dealer is one of the biggest in Northern California.

It's everywhere. It's because they know people are dumb enough to pay it with the lack of inventory. Supply and demand.

Same demand as always, a lack of usual supply and a large dose of inflation.

Free market at work. It will be about 2 years until the chip shortage is fixed. Prices of everything are increasing. So, the question is, in a few years will we consider these prices cheap or high? Me, I would not pay them, but I understand why people would be willing to.

Honestly so many people finance vehicle purchases that the price doesn’t even seem to matter.

Probably not considered price gouging as 1) Tacomas are not an essential item for daily living 2) it's actually not too far off from what the market is demanding right now (i.e. what idiots are willing to pay).
Also, I stay away from Roseville/Livermore Toyota (owned by Sullivan fam). They were cool a while back but they have gone to absolute ish with pricing and hardly any discounts. I must say though that these dealerships are some of the most mod-friendly I have come across. They usually have a couple fixed up Tacomas/Tundras on their showrroom. Of course, with blocks and pucks and premium KMC wheels. Usually tack on $10k for the "custom offroad package"

There's a ton of newer gen3 trd tacomas where i am, more than i've ever seen on the road before. I've ridden in my buddies 2019 trd when he had it. Imo, its a very overrated truck for the way it performs on the black top here. I'd rather be in an sr trim, yet there are more, and more trd's sold every year by our local dealers. Most never see any real off road work.

So...obviously people are paying these absurd prices. Why though?

Stop buying them. The price will go down.

My prediction for increased prices (of everything) will be it will get worse before it gets better but it won’t ever be as good as pre 2020 instead we will “be happy” to get back to the level we are at now

For us owers, we love it. Our trucks are worth more than we originally payed/expected they would be.

Thats the question i'd like to know. Only thing i can figure is people are a lot like sheep when they get brain washed. Its like the jeep cherokee around here....ADVERTISING...they make them appeal to the mass's. Once someone owns one they think they can do anything with them, until they end up with the shiny side down.
