Do i need a cab mount chop (CMC) if i did a 2” lift on my stock and want to get 285/70/16. 99.99% will be pavement and straight roads. .01% will be off road

Nope. You can easily fit up to 285/70/17 tires without a CMC on a 2inch lift. Wheel offset comes into play. Others here have way more knowledge than me, but if you aim for +4 to 0 offset wheels, you’ll be Golden.

You’ll be good with those. If you’re going with the 16inch wheels, you can jump up to 285/75/16 tires and still clear no problem.

He might have been referring to the next generation of Toyota trucks HOPEFULLY having new cab mounts that are located further back so we do not have to be messing around with all this CMC/CMR for bigger tires. Its almost embarrassing what has to be done to fit bigger tires (>285's) especially when compared to say a Jeep.

So i got them and there’s absolutely no rubbing (edit) when turning the steering wheel. I went for 285/75/16 and man im happy. I do recommend going in slowly when entering somewhere because the tire bounces off and hits the top. So when going off roading you might need to take you time with the trail or you’ll be hitting the top of your tires to often. Looks great! I wish I had opted for 16 inch wheels instead of 17 to have more rubber, but next time!

So they rub then ? You said 'absolutely no rubbing' 'It hits the top when enetering' So they rub then.

Im on a similar set up, 16x8 and 0 offset. 2.5'' lift. No CMC. I want to go 285s eventually, I am tempted.

Must have meant "absolutely no rubbing as long as I'm going straight on a perfectly smooth surface."

Thats generally how the typical "I run 285s without a cmc" discussion goes.

Drove a stock Jeep for a week.... Horrible driving experience... Even raising your truck with blocks will still drive better than a Jeep... CMC is no big deal.. You don't rub on the actual cab mounts but the frame that the mount sits in... I fit 295's with minimal rubbing and after a cab mount chop, all good... Nothing embarrassing about that. Drive a Jeep and you'll see what I mean. It's like going back in time..

I'm on 35's with a cab mount relocation, trimmed fenders and firewall pushed back as far as it will go with a hammer, I know all to well what it takes to fit big tires on these trucks. When you get to this point it is embarrassing what has to be done to clear 35's. Jeeps are far superior for having LOTS of clearance for big tires. 35's to a jeep are nothing, they will fit those with minimal to no lift and trimming required so in that perspective that are superior. To each their own, all the jeeps I have been in rode just fine. My '89 YJ rides pretty decent for what it is considering it has leaf springs front and rear.
