What are you streaming on Amazon, Netflix, etc?

I've been re-watching the original anime series on Netflix to prepare for the live action series.
When we first started seeing anime appear in the US back in the late 70's and early 80's we were blown away, with the exception of Heavy Metal we had never seen anything like it.
I'm not going into the live action series with any high hopes, but I am hoping it will at least provide a bit of nostalgia for a jaded ole Gen X'er.

 

I think I started the series in 1992 - I somehow - at the UW library when waiting for my wife (working on her masters) - I got the FREE 1/3 book...............started slow (imagine that) - jump ahead - and frankly, honestly had some difficulty wrapping my head around the final book (not written by Jordan of course) BUT that said, I loved the detail, hated Jordan's repeating the same stuff over and over.......but that does not take away, it's a great series. Take solace - seems like each episode is better than the next.

Question: I don't remember Perrin killing his wife accidentally.....was this in the book???? (my memory has holes, like Mat)

 

Nah, he didn't even have a wife in the first book. It's an interesting retcon.

 

It follows the animated series closely. But idk how to put my opinion in words. I just don’t know how I feel about it.. I like it but idk. Might need a Zach Snyder cut lol

 

No, Perrin's backstory, as well as Matts, is all wrong at this point in the TV series.

 

That is exactly what I thought...........he marries way later............all three and Egwene are so innocent in the book is basically what I told my wife who has zero interest in reading the book but is mildly entertained.

The casting for the White Cloak inquisitioner is interesting. Those scenes where decent acting I think.........again not thinking of the book.

 

Matt shown with a dead beat dad, drunk mom...........hmm..............and the knife already influencing him, never saw his lucky, witty, happy go lucky side.........shit they show him as a loser from the start. WTF?

Same. I've enjoyed it so far, despite, and maybe even somewhat because of the liberties taken. I've always argued that the books were so full of filler and fluff that any TV adaptation could cut out a ton to tell the story and stay true to the tale. No spoilers from me, but a fan of the books could go either way. My wife and I have been avid super geek book fans for decades, and we are both looking forward to seeing more.

I watched one episode and I'm not sure I'll get back to it. I feel like I'm watching a WB tweeny show.

 

Yea. I watched the first episode. Its not GOT or The Expanse.

 

I've got no financial interest in the production nor do I currently hold AMZN directly, but I say give the story time to develop. At least the first three episodes. It IS a great written story - how well this series comes off - I am in the same boat: UNKNOWN. I actually think it would be better if they just kept SEX and GENDER out of it and tell the story.

Yeah the whole thing about THE DRAGON being a man OR woman, complete BS. The Dragon is a man. And WOMEN have a TON of POWER already in the WOT. Why fck with that? Why??

 

Kinda will depend on how big a fan you are of the books. If you haven't read the series, or don't really care about the liberties they take with the story, then it's just ok.
I thought @se7enine described it well as a WB-ish type show.

 

This makes me think about the early books versus middle and later books. It goes from really fairly tame, to some fun sexy times, to downright gruesome as

the chapters with Rand and Min, Rand and Aviendha, the Forsaken, and head-sploding meat-grinding Asha'man (think Dumai's wells)

come into play.

 

Hired Gun on prime is really good. Tracks the ups and downs of working as a studio musician in big rock bands. Plus a good soundtrack.
