It happened to me recently. I had a mechanic tell me. It’s a fuel related issues so I changed all fuel injectors. Nothing has h changed everytime I drive on a normal road up hill. It does that same noise.

It is Not fuel related. It is engine oil pooling.

    yeah the 3.5.

seriously though, it had to have hydrolocked because there were two intake ports full of oil when I pulled the motor.

when I change my intake manifold gasket I found that 3 ports had oil in them but the others didn’t. So what did you do to make you car to stop smoking? I can’t really buy a used engine because the shipping to hawaii is expensive as shit . I did add an additive to an oil because I thought it was my valve stem seals. When I did so, no smoke on start up anymore so I was assuming the culprit was my stem seals?

Also when I did a compression test my engine all the compression Met the requirements which is really weird. So I’m wondering if your smoke came on start up as well?? Happy Holidays :)

    To answer both questions:

Mine only smoked once, the motor ended up hydrolocking and blew a hole in the block on driver and passenger side.

I was on an incline just idling. Smoke happened, motor blew (didn’t even know it) truck shut off. Oil everywhere and that was the end of th me 3.5. Can’t speak on the 3.5 anymore as the truck has a v8 in it now.
