Are the daytime running lights (parking lights) not enough?

Well if we're talking about the intended purpose of the marker lights, then no, the running lights don't satisfy that requirement since the fenders sit probably like 6" wider than the edges of those.

yup but i think our track width is the same even though yours are only +4 as a matter of fact I think the third GEN fenders are wider and have a bit more wheel coverage or at least they appear that way the fenders and the bedsides with that new shape to them appear wider than a second GEN to me stock

I could be wrong but I think the whole whip thing requiring those lights does include the width of your tires i.e. if you were to measure outside edge of tire to outside edge of tire it’s not just the body panels if you read the definition it even mentions needing those lights if your load you’re carrying exceeds that width

Either way I’m not putting those ugly ass lights on my truck ever…

No it's why you see the cab lights on duallys and then on the blistered rear bedsides. Technically that's what is required per DOT regs. I doubt many cops would ever measure your width to make sure you needed them unless you were traveling and doing interstate commerce but then you'll likely run into the DOT enforcement officers which hold nothing back.

In other words I would never even care or worry about it until I actually if ever got ticketed for it.

Anybody have any tricks for mounting beadlocks. I can’t get the front bead to sit down. I can get it about 3/4 of way and I’m hitting it with a pry bar and a hammer and can’t get the damn thing to go in. I’m hitting it so hard I’m scared I’m going to start damaging the tire. I tried putting the ring on to hold the part that’s already seated but it’s so tight I can’t get the last little bit in.

Walk the bead on with two flat head screw drivers and a lot of patience.

99% of normal drivers probably don’t have a clue what the lights are even for which IMO makes them even more ridiculous.

It won’t damage the inside seal by using the flatheads? The ring covers it anyways and they are going to get scratched anyways so not too worried about it but want to make sure I’m not going to effect the seal.

Two flatheads and walk it. You’re not going to hurt anything if you take your time with it. I like to keep a knee pushed down on the bead once it’s started then go to town.

Once you have it on, tap the bead down with a dead blow or mallet.

No problem. It takes some time to get a system down.

Well thanks that worked a lot better. Scratched it a little but not worried about it. They will probably just get more scratched in the future. I’ve mounted bike and motorcycle tires before but this was definitely more frustrating.

Glad you got it but if you have more to do, this is my method. I spray soapy water around the ring and get what I can seated by hand. The last 20%, I take a dead blow and hit the bead both outward and down, sorta at a 45° angle. Work your way around the part that still needs to be seated and it’s easy peezy. I’m sure YMMV based on the specific tire and bead profile, but that’s what worked well for me. The lube is a must. You can also use some fender washers and bolts to hold the bead down as you work your way around.

Thanks man. I tried that the first time and I couldn’t get it to seat, it’s extremely tight. But I’ll try more lube on the next one. Thanks for the tips guys! Hopefully get these mounted tomorrow!

typically if it’s extremely tight more lube solves it :rimshot:

I’ve mounted a few sets of Yokohama mt tires, they seems to fit beadlocks tighter than other tires I’ve mounted. I for the life of me could not get mine to seat with any method that worked previously. What I’ve done a few times and what also works is taking a very sharp de burring tool or razor and knocking the slightest bit off the inner edge down. Im talking 1/16 th, As long as you’re careful it will not damage the tire and will make life easier. Tires will still work on normal wheels.
