Get a nice insulated canopy and put the crates in the bed. That’s probably a better place if they are hunting dogs, they will be soaking wet and muddy on the way home anyways. Plus then you have a secure place to put your hunting gear. Everyone I know with “expensive” hunting dogs throw them in a crate in the back of the truck and strap the crates down. If the accident is bad enough, no type of crate will help them. Hunting dogs are tools at the end of the day.

Poor boy is not getting the respect he deserves on here, someone should have pointed him to the $50 aftermarket door panels on Amazon. I mean, who would make their own door panels? No one could possibly use the same technique already described and cover the HDPE in upholstery. Lets not forget that the Gunner G1 cage will fit the small-midsize dogs the OP describes without issue and fit the back seat of the truck. Lets also not forget that the OP advocates using factory seatbelts to secure all children, including toddlers, because seatbelts come pre installed and no one ever buys carseats.

Didn't he upgrade to something more 50-shades-of-grey looking?

Idk what the OP needs exactly (didn't read) but Bronx just takes up his own seat -

I'd imagine you were busy ordering the next size up crate as opposed to the one that fit both your chosen dog and vehicle. Perhaps you were polishing your cufflinks or debating the verbiage of your wedding announcement in the New York Times or something.

We have aluminum panels to replace the door panels in many of the K9 vehicles regardless of the dog crate. Look into some of the options from Setina and Havis Sheilds.

You'd likely get better input from K9 handlers who deal with these problems as you've found here you'll get the honest answers of a. do your homework and b. think outside your box.

ETA: You can get the used gear out of K9 and police vehicles for beers and lunch most of the time - hit up some PD guys and the city/county/department/parks mechanics/garage guys and radio shop guys, they can often hook you up with pull out gear as new vehicles usually get built with new gear.

Most mammals enter a depressed state when confined. You can see this in penal colonies such as prisons and zoological gardens.

Came here because of the interesting thread title. Kept reading to find out what kind of doggos we're dealing with. Feel a bit slighted (though thoroughly entertained) after 10 pages.

An option that hasn't been explored yet, mount one kennel in the back seat, remove the front passenger seat to mount the second kennel, and you ride in the bed....or follow behind in your Prius.

Seriously. What kind of bullshit thread about dogs doesn't even have pictures of the dogs in question? What a let down.

I’m still confused about why they don’t just take the dogs to the estate in Daddy’s Sikorsky…

He won't be the take home for Christmas boyfriend that gets those perks, he's the stay home with the dogs while she's on a family trip in the Acores boyfriend.

Please accept my apologies. I joined Tacomaworld just yesterday hoping for truck advice. Turns out it's mostly MySpace/Facebook. Three people have helped me and others are lining up to make fun of me. It's really great.

    Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone.
